New viewers of this show: if you don`t like enemies-to-lovers kind of trope and don`t find it remotely realistic then STAY AWAY from this drama.
I am amongst the viewers who don`t watch dramas for realism, i don`t expect realism when it comes to romantic tropes like enemies to lovers and hate to love. This is a fairy tale kind of notion and that`s also why it is so addictive for us viewers to watch and explore.
This is a classic story that goes through these tropes again and again, because it is the central part of the plot.
Domyjoji/ Ah Si/ Jun Pyo and Thyme are the bully villian at the start of this drama with Makino/ Shancai/ Jan Di and Gorya being his first female Red Card victim. Does he bully her? Yes. Does he make her life miserable? Yes.
But does she hit back? Yes. Does she take his breath away? Yes. Most importantly, does she steal his heart? Absolutely yes and she does it with class (without even knowing).
Does he pursue her? Oh yes...that he does. Does she hurt him in the process? Oh yes, many...manyyyy times. She rips his heart off so many times i have lost count. But that is the angst in this enemies to lovers trope. She does not easily give in to his heart. She does not easily come to trust him even when she befriends him.
But does his heart eventually win her over? Oh yes yes. After many obstacles, after many heartbreaks, after many heartfelt moments...he eventually wins her heart. THAT is what we love in this story. It isn`t easy, but it is worth the long journey in how they become enemies to lovers.
We viewers can enjoy it, DEAL WITH IT, or stay the hell out from it.
Many viewers are gushing about the kick, the kiss and the break up scenes. But one particular moment that really shines in my eyes, and that not a lot of people talk about, is the stadium scene in ep 2 where Thyme gave Hana the red card.
That scene is SO HUGELY important and impactful for so many different reasons.
Thyme knew Gorya`s major weakness at this point, which is her loyalty. He knew Gorya would appear as soon as he gave Hana the red card. He waited for her and when she does enter the stadium you can literally feel his excitement...his growing fascination.
He gives her the shaver, giving her the ultimatum that if she shaves her hair he will let go of Hana, then he whispers "Or you can give in". That is what he wants at this point. He wants Gorya to give in to him, to his power.
Gorya quickly comes to a decision. But tells him first what she thinks of him that moment. "You are just a rich spoiled little brat". Thyme wasn`t angered at this response. He was awed, He was reflecting. He was 100% attracted to her at this moment without even realizing it. The way his eyes watches her every move. Gorya`s utter hatred towards him. THEY HAVE SO MUCH SPARKS IN THIS SCENE!
I feel so bad for Ren. Even though I knew he wouldn't get his happy ending with the FL, Ren was such a good guy.…
Ren has always been my favourite character in the whole Boys over Flowers Saga! I perfectly understand why you are team Ren. He is Gorya`s guardian angel..he will be whatever she needs him to be. Whatever she wants him to be. Its a very selfless love he feels for her.
But then, i also know he will move on from her. He will find himself the perfect girl in the future.
I think that one important aspect in this whole Franchise is the brotherhood between the F4. There is a reason this version is called "F4 Thailand" and i find that so important. Thyme, Ren, Kavin and MJ may be born with silver spoons, rich and elite...in the highest class in the aristocratic modern society. They use their power however they want and they can get away with anything they want.
But as Kavin explains in ep 1. It comes with a price. The society they have grown up in has double standards, hypocrisy, and people ready to stab you in the back anytime. It is a world where you can`t trust anyone. It is a world where you have to use a mask all the time, to play the game. It is a world that forces you to top, but that height suffocates you and makes the world you live in lonely and miserable. Thyme may be the one who has the biggest pressure, but Kavin, Ren and MJ can understand this because they are also playing the game.
F4 are lucky to have found each other when they were in kindergarten. They are each others safe haven, they trust no one outside their group (until Gorya enters their lives). They need each other.
All of them would probably have sad fates if it weren`t for each other.
