This is inspired by true events. They both existed, not that they have a romantic relationship, but this is the way the author has fictionalised this historical event. The North Kingdom take over the South kingdom and put the South King under house arrest in the Northen capital.

In the novel there is no wedding. This could be the change in the live series or could be when they reincarnate. They did in the novel and were happy (but not wedding either)

Everybody dies in real life too. This is based on historic facts. He was a real emperor in the southern territory. He was the poet emperor. He died on Qixi day - (Chinese St Valentine) here why the author was inspired to write something romantic. His CP character represent the North Emperor who took over the south.

The actors are such funny characters, so let's wait and see 🙂

For all the E&K delulus a bit of the theory on since when they have been "entangled" together, like it looks has been forever. The effort that people put in arriving to these conclusion is crazy. I am a rainbow wig wearer on relation of this two but it is more wishful thinking. Who I am to know the truth and do I really want to know the truth? It is not my life. As I always remind people, in China people don't just come out, not only in showbiz (that's a no go) but also at work, with families etc. It is a minority who are open about their sexuality. My beautiful man was written but a lady who won a literary competition for another piece. It starts with a strange premise but it win you over. One of the lead even won an international award for this performance (the beautiful one). There was season 1 and 2 and also a film. It is only from 2 years ago.

Some of you may find helpful to cope with what is coming if I mention that this is a fictional account of real historical facts and figures. It represent the fall of the Southern Kingdom to the North that started a new dynasty. Shu He represent Li Yu the last ruler of the Southern Tang that was a small state in southern China. To the north, the Song dynasty was rising in power under Emperor Taizong of Song. In 975 CE, the Song army invaded. The Southern Kingdom was surrendered and Li Yu was taken to the Song capital where he lived under house arrest. I won't tell you in which circumstances but Li Yu died on the Qixi Festival (kind of Valentine's Day) He is remember as a tragic poet-king.
There is a very powerful phrase that Shu He said in the end of ep 8 when he was recriminating DZA for lying to him that goes like "You did not have enough with wanting the fall of the Southern Kingdom you also wanted to fill it with my heart and flesh". So beautiful too.

For me Kill to Love has "knocked me down" as I have not been "knocked down" since The Untamed. With the difference that TU was a long series and it was really upbeat and funny in most of the series. Kill to Love is so deep and the acting is so multi layer. It is piercing really. Because of this, I was watching other Chinese mainstream dramas and completely lost interest. They feel so bland in comparison sooo boring and repetitive. I am also watching Shine, not for the reason people watch Thai BLs, but because it is an historic LGBTQ+ storyline and it is very interesting to follow. they have excellent mainstream actors performing in a gay storyline for first time.
