in the past he didn't ask her out right!!! like do you remember in the present the ep1 her bestie told you had busy time with some otherthings and did not pay attention to jun jae.
maybe ML have killed his mother without his knowledge so he wasn't able t speak to police officer. his dad wanted to keep from maybe due to elections and for his own sake. so his stepmother wouldn't let his big brother hang out with him. The FL father already know that ML killed. He just concluded his honest statement in his press conference and that's when he was removed out investigation and lost his job( note even FL father also said he's like a timebomb) so maybe this would happen. after that maybe they would connect the case and with ongoing case and find the truth about his mother's actual death!!!
