But in many Chinese Dramas, even the girls call the man they love as "Gege". It was kind of a cultural shock for my friend. And she was saying maybe Gege doesn't mean "Older brother" because in a series she watched apparently the father of a guy called him "Gege" and he called his daughter "Mei mei".
