In the last scene, Shan Shan was talking to the director of Twilight, not Bro.

I believe Bro had copyright only on Twilight. He had given their 30 yr contact to Huan Rui, so he had no legal hold on Qi Lianshan after Twilight. They never contacted each other again.

Any proper kiss scenes??
One peck on the cheek, then showering together. Who needs kissing.

I’m adding Qi Lianshan to one of my favorite Ren Jialun’s anti-heros. Along with Zhou Shen cheng, both characters are not the typical cool, domineering alpha male. I enjoyed Qi Lianshan for his basic human-ness, a little quirky and weird in a charming way. Unlike RJL’s infamous roles in costume dramas, Qi Lianshan was a timid, scared of horror movies, socially awkward, naive hero. His facial expressions and physical comedy was perfect for this role.
IMO, his attitude toward Jai Zhen was the most heroic.. Coming from no training in screenwriting, Bro Jai hired him, trained him, and started his career. Despite the abuse and betrayal, Qi Lianshan could not destroy him,.

It’s agonizing to watch Jai Zhen’s abuse of Shan Shan. But Shan Shan’s choice at the end shows his pure sincerity in treating JaiZ like his family. The family feeling is what Yuan Yuan longed for but JaiZ betrayed them both.

Just a heads up, keep watching till they finally revealed the full lyrics of the theme song. Thats the real message…
Thank you so much tsuyoi-hikari. I love learning about the deeper meaning of drama plots, especially Ren Jialun’s dramas.
I also detect his personal favorites in this drama, i.e. playing basketball and driving.

What I love about Ren Jialun is his drama choices as well as the variety of characters he chose to play. I like…
I applaud Ren Jialun’s role as Qi Lianshan because Shan Shan is very un-idol like. He’s popular for his idol type roles, but this one is totally opposite. I don’t know if any other male idols would play a scene of getting caught in the bathroom without toilet paper, or singing a nerdy rap, or doing a clumsy fight scene.

Please enlighten me on the message of the drama as revealed in the theme song. I found the ending unsatisfactory at first, but upon rewatching, it ‘s appropriate I agree with you about the unique creativity of the drama and how it seamlessly integrated all the subplots.

I have not seen dramas like this written so well and populated with rich, complex characters. The tropes are still there but a little different and intriguing. I feel like all the actors in this drama must have had a ball playing their different roles in the screenwriting, high school, police , and car racing scenarios.

I’m an Allen Ren fan so I enjoy watching how he portrays all his different characters. Qi Lianshan is simple and lovable to me. I’ve watched up to episode 14. The integration of the fictional characters with screenwriter Qi Lianshan is easy to follow, a lot easier than some other C dramas I’ve watched. Angela baby and all the supporting cast are doing well in portraying their multiple roles as well. I don’t think the bad characters are shallow, they have complex emotions. To me the plot can go in several directions, which keeps me watching.
I even detect some underlying humor - Qi Lianshan resists adding romance to his scripts (like Allen Ren’s alleged avoidance of kissing). He also asks how he is supposed to speak on TV (his line delivery has been criticized). He pokes fun at immortals suddenly disappearing from the screen in xianxia dramas (i.e Blue Whisper, Thousand Years for You).

I agree with you on RJL's acting, especially in this role. Also, I don't know if that was his real voice or not…
Exactly. However, many viewers of Ren Jialun’s dramas are so accustomed to hearing his dubber ‘s voice that he is criticized when he uses his natural voice. It is also confusing when different dubbers are used for his voice in different dramas.

95% of Chinese historical and fantasy dramas do not use the actors’ and actresses’ real voice. Their dialogue is voiced by professional voice dubbers. This is often because filming sites have too much noise interference and their natural voices may not be standard Mandarin because of heavy regional accents (Cantonese). Actors may dub their own lines in the studio after production, but that takes more time and expense. Recent government regulations, however, are forcing more dramas to use original voices.

His real voice was used in this drama as well as Miss Crow with Mr Lizard and Forever and Ever. He has been criticized for just “reading the script” many times. He continues to work to improve.

Although I am an avid Ren Jialun fan, I felt he didn’t show any growth in his level of acting in this drama. However, I commend him for dubbing his own voice. He has been criticized for this and I respect his courage. He has improved . I like his voice best when he is a warm and caring personality.
