"For those looking for a romance, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed" – actually, romance is very much there... not as the main focus of the story, but still there.

If I may, as a person who has read and loved the manga... I would never say (I'm gonna put under "spoiler" button the part of op's statement I *mostly* disagree with + a super short comment – my intention is to prevent you from thinking the whole story has been ruined for you >____<, but, of course, if you prefer not to read it, just skip!):
[so... I never wrote any comment on MDL before... mostly because I'm not sure I can handle potentially heated discussions in english 😅... but I figured that, after having spent last two days ranting everywhere from FB to IG to Twitter, I could very well have added this platform to the list... ?]
I don't think this story features any real *villain*... but, if I had to choose someone for the role, Ray would definitely be my pick. And - for the record - I'm saying this without having stopped, not for one second!, to consider him the best thought out, written and acted character of the entire show.
His attitude towards Sand is, obviously, unacceptable... not so much because he wasn't free to start a relationship with Mew (as many others already pointed out, it's pretty clear that what he feels for the guy has nothing to do with love - and that he's probably gonna realize very soon that living the dream isn't really like... well, dreaming it?), but because, after having made that decision, he's no longer authorized - admitting he ever was - to prevent Sand from doing whatever he wants with whomever he wants, when he wants, where he wants. The way he looks at Sand, in the preview of episode 8, while claiming "I can have feelings for how many people I like" is, simply, an insane look (Khao, I love you, you're so talented 💖). Plus, the fact he's about to handle Mew (the supposed love of his life, the boy of his dreams, the one in front of whom he made a big show of himself being the "different from that as*hole of Top" one, Mr. Nice Guy, Prince "I've liked you since forever and I'm gonna be the one treating you well" Charming) in a way that has already left visible scars on Mew, dumping him at a party to go making a jealousy rant at another guy "he has feelings for"... well, it's better if I don't comment on it any further.
Well played, Ray, well played. I got distracted by Boston (who, by the way, was right about Ray - he has always been right about Ray) and Top (who, all things considered, I think he's one of the most reedemable characters on the plate, right now) and I forgot to properly look at you in the eyes.
