I saw you are watching Pursuit of Jade. Both dramas are written by the same screen writer. The main chars of POJ are similar with the main chars in LLTG, but lack the depth/complexity of LLTG chars. If you think LLTG lacks chars depth you'd be disappointed watching POJ. Deeply. when CSS decided to leave with her uncle and her aunt, her mother gave her the best trained guards to protect her, gold and silver to assure her a decent life. She couldnt help herself to not watch her leaving, waited on a street to watch her even for a bit. It was her way to say goodbye. The bad penalty, when guards beat CSS, left her bruises, but didnt break her bones (sounds harsh, but this happened hundreds of years ago). She rejected the marriage with Lou Yao only to protect her daughter, coz she would have a bad life due to that clan dynamics Same about her marriage with LBY. The way she chose to save her daughter life and future when the entire family went to prison may be bad, but behind was the mother who protected her child. Everywhere, during 56 eps, you'll find a scene that proves her mother loved and supported CSS The house was empty after CSS entered the Palace, her mother missed her. Her will all broke when CSS left, it was the moment when her mother realized she should choose a better way to build her relation with her child I dont blame CSS mother, she is the mirror of a female general of those times, with good and wrongs, but who definitely loved her child
