It's been 6 days and I am still sad I didn't get the reference... which scene??
If you're still wondering since no one answered: when they send the RealTruth reporter to MelonMusk's house to stay, Melon serves him grilled dumplings, which makes the RealTruth reporter ask if he'll have to be imprisoned for 15 years and eat octopus once he gets out, which is what happens in Oldboy at the start.
Did they ever address why Santa doesn't use his voice? It seems like he does it on his own accord.
I personnaly perceived him moreso as selectively mute than chosing to not speak (given he did speak once -if I recall- when he was alone, n immediatly reverted to silence once Kyung Yi entered again), but maybe it's only projection on my part, I don't expect disorders not so well known in general to be represented in media haha.. It's still a posibility though! One that'd make me really happy to see <3
But I do agree that I want to see more female chaotic serial killers too, the kind that just pick anyone, simply…
That I definitely know, and I would love ruthless mindless cruel female serial killer. I think my perspective is just different because in taking the role of jury juror and executioner on her own, K already has aspects of monstruosity to her, in my eyes, because a murder is a murder, and outside of self defense, even a revenge carried out for others still is an atrocious act no matter the reasoning and justification. I think the show even highlights it itself, in a way: the woman who stabbed the asshole guy who leaked her private content carried on the guilt of said action, and regret upon taking justice into her own hands, even when one could say she was justified in avenging herself when society refused to grant her justice. Compare that to K's reactions towards her murders, and it clearly sets her apart as colder and more "inhumane", even moreso with her whole attitude towards the investigation, almost like a game, though this perception may be accentuated by her saccharine displays of acted out bubbliness that makes her a bit childish in presentation. But then once again I definitely understand and even share the desire to see ruthless female killers, without wrappings of tragedy and justifications. It's just not something that borthers me so much in this instances when it merges with the genre and themes and discussions the show is built upon.
I get it...This series is different. But why can't they for once show that a girl can be a stone cold serial killer…

Even when her killings are "morally grey" as she kills only people who did wrongdoings, she still is a serial killer by virtue of killing a serie of people, by definition. On top of it, it's arguable whether or not the wrongdoings of her victims deserved death, them bypassing justice doesn't justify their death by the hand of a third party. Granted, with the corruption of society, it's understandable to side with her out of the frustration of seeing people who commit terrible acts remain unpunished, but it still doesn't justify her killing in a moral sense, and her own perspective of in a way doing justice by herself indicates some level of god-complex that in itself implies some level of fucked up-ness ("I am the hand that awards punishment" she takes the role of the law, all by herself). It's easy to dismiss in the dramatics of TV, but her killing streak only attaining morally dubious or downright villainnous people doesn't make it any more justified! Even in the face of injustice, you don't kill people just for doing you wrong (and I'm saying that as someone who still, in the context of the show, side in parts with K, because fiction is catharsis above all, and naturally it offers relief to see, in fiction, the bad deeds that remain unpunished in real life get answered. Nevertheless, labelling K as "not a cold serial killer" feels a bit iffy to me, she is one, whose morals for picking victims align more easely with a conception of "it was deserved". Thus I understand her. But one must not forget that most serial killer in life actually feel their doings are justified in a way, it's just naturally way less easy to side with a man who kills women he deems unpure for promiscuity than a woman killing abusive men).
