I can't just understand how a woman could pass off as a man. she could get by by the attire and man-bun but not the voice. The voice and face will be an absolute give away.( it is a good thing that she wore her mask to disguise herself as a man.). It is understandably that she would be showing her face LATER in the story( or else any unknown actress could just fill her role if she wears her mask from the start to finish.lol) This is a plus point but still, her way of walking would give her away UNLESS she is a woman who considers herself as a man by heart. She then would strut herself like a man.lol.
I had this belief that Mulan looks like neutral-gender to be able to pass off as a man. But Zhou ye is too pretty to successfully look like a "guy".

Ok, I had to suspend my disbelief and doubts and just enjoy this drama series, and I did like it !

All are good( plot, flow of the story, pacing, acting) except that He yan acted deliberately cute like a girl. Didn't she check herself not to do this to avoid arousing suspicion from her commander? Her ability to combat and do martial arts as a general is a given in the story since she was trained for it since she was very young. And this drama is all about her. She had killed 3 barbarian chiefs thus earning her title as the best in her " division".
Xiao jue is there as a supporting and her love interest.
Chu Zhao is an upright official who put the country's interest first rather than loyalty to his mentor, the villain chancellor. This put him in a good light except when he deliberately split the commanding forces of He yan and Xiao jue during the battle with the barbarians and nearly destroyed the kingdom. He did this for selfish reasons and he was banished for it.. He did not lead the chancellor's daughter on. She was deluded thinking Chu Zhao loved her. We could see from his behavior that he treated her with proper decorum because she was the daughter of his mentor, nothing more to it. I felt sorry for his character. If only he could find consolation and love in the story, he wouldn't be miserable!
