It's not about how well the friend did, it's about him using his friend just to meet the sign-up quota without the friend's permission. There was literally only one scene of him preparing for it vs all the dates he went on, so I don't know if he served the win. This competition didn't show his growth, and wasn't of any plot significance except to emphasize that he's some kind of ultra-smart.
Contrast this to how the singing competition showcased the FL's growth as a singer and musician, and in her character as well, where she had her moments of insecurity and yet constantly strove to put on the perfect performance, and worked hard to prove herself, even as the people around her doubted her. I'd say the Female MC was the star of the drama b/c she was such a real character. Whereas the Male MC was just...there.
The male lead is too perfect and yet a jerk at the same time. For the international big data competition - He signed his friend up for it without his permission, forcing his friend to spend many sleepless nights just to prepare for sth he didn't sign up for? Seriously who does that to their friends?? And then they somehow manage to win it against other established names who were also participating, without any experience?? Idk if I should slap him or worship him.
Also, I think they drank more soymilk than they did water.
Seriously love this drama - created an MDL account to rate and comment! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good plot with well-balanced and consistent characters.
Also one of the rare few dramas where the main female character is introduced from the start as someone who is smart, calm, logical, slightly innocent and yet not naive - and stays true to that to the very end. You can clearly see that JinYu and Chu Chu are such a healthy couple - they're on equal footing with each other, they recognise each others' talents and truly respect their decisions, they communicate in a mature manner (so rare in dramaland!!). Also, cannot get enough of the females in the drama supporting each other!
Good job to the production team for sidestepping all those illogical yet popular dramaland cliches, and also to the entire cast - especially enjoyed the eunuch crew (Qin Gong Gong and Sun Gong Gong). Would definitely love to see a season 2!
