Because the main plot of the drama focuses on revenge and not on romance, the villian (Vincent Wei) is the ML and DGZ is the SML.
DGZ only disappears for a while in the middle of the show and returns later, however you barely notice his disappearance because the length of the episode's aren't too long.

I'm not arguing that there is no romance in Bride's Revenge, however, I believe in comparison with Maid's Revenge, Bride's Revenge focuses more on Qu Meng Ru and Dai Gao Zheng working together to get their revenge while also falling for each other in the process. So technically since the story focuses more on the revenge aspect than romance, That's why Vincent Wei is the ML in this drama since he is the main villain and not the love interest. So, even though Dai Gao Zheng has less screen time, his absence is somewhat better for the story. His disappearance allows Qu Meng Ru's character to become more confident and daring, as well as allowing her to take major actions to find answers and move towards her revenge. This gap time is also really good for Dai Gao Zheng's character, who didn't die as Mu An He, and returns as Tang Zi Feng while hiding his real identity as Mu An He. This gap period allows his character to break out from his somewhat naive and obedient shell and become stronger both mentally and physically to take on Vincent Wei and take back everything that originally belongs to him.

I’ve read the novel summary for this drama and basically the FL doesn’t experience reincarnation or rebirth, but in fact just goes back in time with the memories that she had from the future.
Lost love in times was also in the same situation. After experiencing a revolt at the ML and FL wedding at the beginning of the drama, the FL (who was a powerful mage) turned time back so that she could protect the ML and make sure the revolt doesn’t happen.
On the other hand, the novel the dramas One and Only and Forever and Ever are based on involves reincarnation. In fact, if you read the novel, the story for Forever and Ever is the main plot while the story for One and Only is brief. The main plot focuses on the FL being born again in Forever and Ever, following the ending of One and Only, while having memories from her previous life. In the drama however, the FL doesn’t have her memories from her previous life but just experiences some flashbacks instead. So instead of following the reincarnation plot, the writers would give the audience some hints or vague flashbacks, but nothing explicit enough like how she had all her memories from her previous life, alike her character in the novel. And in the end, while it was kind of implied that they remembered, the writers relegated it all to being the FL’s dream that she had while she was in coma and the ML reading her diary about the description of him from his previous life, which she had written according to her flashbacks.

Agreed!!! As an actor he has so much more potential to show various forms of acting, but I believe the story line didn't allow him to do that. Although his screen time was short, I really liked his acting and character in Under The Queen's Umbrella.
