If you're into revenge plots, then you can definitely go for it without a second thought. After nirvana in fire…
Honestly, I’ve just been rewatching Nirvana in Fire because there’s not much else that’s grabbed my attention lately, which is how I got interested in this drama. I’m one of those few people who really enjoy a solid plot and think the random romantic subplots (like in Fangs of Fortune, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, or The Blood of Youth) are a bit pointless and just feel like filler. Thanks a lot for the rec! I’m definitely keeping this one on my Viki watchlist.
Quick question guys - I liked the sound of the plot when I read the description, since I’m into revenge (c or k) dramas. But the mixed opinions about how well the story holds together kind of put me off. I just wanted to ask – honestly - do you think the plot is still worth watching if the male lead wasn’t played by Xiao Zhan?
I’m asking seriously, because all the fights between fans and haters of certain actors makes most reviews feel more like popularity contests than actual opinions on the story. I’m not in any fandom – I’m just curious about whether the story is worth watching or average.
As I said earlier this is solid 8.5 drama.. MDL ratings lost credibility, these days haters creating bot accounts…
I was curious about this drama, but after reading reviews full of 10* ratings without any substantive commentary—just things like "oh amazing, obsessed," and "I loooove it"—I know it's probably in the same category as Lovely Runner (which means the "not worth wasting time on, fans and haters fighting over some idol" category). And I believe that's the real reason why MDL has lost its credibility. A plot doesn't become intriguing just because an actor or actress is attractive and popular. There are plenty of overrated dramas—for example, most of those starring JCW (who has the same five expressions regardless of whether he's in a romance, historical, or action drama) or Bai Lu (who almost always plays a character pretending to be strong but ends up as a damsel in distress in a toxic relationship).
Lol the romance is subtle so watch it for the team, their friendship.
I'm not intrested in romance. I just feel FL actress is just typicall chinese idol actress - director put her somewhere and tell to act pretty and don't disturb real actors. So i'm just tired and skip scene with her but how can i watch the plot when skipped scene with FL 😅
Just started this and i understand the hype now. What took me so long???
When I started watching this drama, I had similar feelings. I didn't understand all the hype. So I drop it for over half a year, then start to watch again and was lost forever :D I rewatched it countless times, it is my forever comforter, especially with the special edition ending.
"The sensation of walking down the single-plank bridge until the dark end... really isn't so bad."
It's more like Disney movie than historicall drama, so as long as you don't think how unreal is Crown Prince to marry traitor dauther, let's say they have happy ending.
