Iqyi's video pop up in my Youtube and I was so shocked by the 'cursing' title so then I clicked the drama! And then got sizzled by the chemistry of our leads!! So I just binge watched this all night!!
Honestly this is the first kdrama, I think, that I watched in the last two years. But then I just found out today, that actually this drama rating is so so. Like what happen? Me , the picky eater in drama land so far quite love this! Well, the first eps is a bit a drag but Im so glad to keep it to eps 2 where everything just become gold!! The comedic timing of our two leads keep me rolling! Well, I see some comment rather than funny the ML is just sadistic and the FL hate his gut. Buuuuut if we watched the same drama then this obviously a story of first love that fortunately their feeling for each other never faded after all these year but just unfortunately uri ML and FL just those kind of dense people that hardly realize their feeling for eachother. There is untold stories that make that make their relationship seem cliche and absurd cat-dog in the beginning. But after survived the first three episodes then you realized their relationship is subtle and sweet, when we saw each of lead's perspective through the years, it showed how special each other is in their heart, with
fighting and teasing as the spice.

But though I love this drama so much till now (eps8), I still have the wait and see attitude for the rating. Maybe because kdrama land traumatized me so much nowdays, I'm one for sweet, comedic, without some cliche tragedy drama and sucker for a blissfully clear
happy ending, that is not seem to be a trend in most kdrama lately. The brewing plot of the lawyer, the ahjumma and the bestfriend.. Well, actually as long as they don't make the lead relationship's complicated and frustating later on. Esp when we finally got them to admit and confess their feeling, hope for more and more sweetness coming up!!

Oh .. That's what you mean.. Yeah, its happen in the novel too.. Some people use the issues to drag down the rating of the novel and drama, but they are so obvious.. as there was not logical evidence, just opinion.. I think for international fans, not many that buying them.. It just suck, i hope the issues can be cleared soon, so not to keep the novel and drama got dragged in the unclear water #pray

But speaking of this forum, I think its quite unfair too that because of those issues some honest critique and review got treated as haters , to the point that a bit of critical comments got attacked by some ‘fans' ..
As you said its okay to dislike or like as long you dont force it on others..
But there are people that think the drama is perfect and dislike other to found flaw in it or have different opinion otherwise, or that certain idol of theirs to not be critiqued.. Of course its understandable if it was toxic comments, but some of it just fans that anticipated the drama and disappointed with how the adaptation handled obviously not in the best care

About the poor review in the drama from chinese netizen, I think its about the plagiarization issue of the original work. I cant understand chinese so I cant confirm much, but it seem like there was suspicion that author write about some real life professional esport's experience in her novel, and esport fans feel indignant about it. The author already denied the accusation. Its really bad, but my view is if its true, then this is court matter. Because till now the show can still able to run without a single lawsuit, then the accusation not confirmed yet. Again as international fans that not understand chinese or their real life esport industry, maybe it leave us baffled and confused , but there is cultural and languange barrier between us with c-netizen, so lets just respect everyone's view for now, either author, production team, or c-fans, and stay out from conflict we dont even understand.
About the gaming element, actually I dont inconporated the rl to the novel, because its just fiction for me. But YBWYS dont blunder up the gaming scene so far, not sure about the drama because it have different game. And about esport player's life style, first, i dont have knowledge about chinese esport industry, and two , several esport players that I like (local one from my country and some international one), im not privy to their private live as hardly i interested in their gossip. So aside from the information that casually picked from their gaming videos and livestream as well some general info like their age and gaming history, im not sure about their life style.. Just that to be a professional players the pressure is very high, as you had to understand the game throughfully, all characteristic of the heroes, their abilities, item build, map awareness and ofcourse perfect teamwork and your role in the team as well as the teamate's. It cant be achieved by mindlessly playing, but by studying, analizing yourself and your opponets, coming up with strategies and where to use them, and ofcourse practice and keep practicing so you can perfected your strategy and teamwork. So its very ardous, and you cant be a static player just content in your current strategy as esport maybe the most dynamic sport as its very competitive with the game popularity keep growing so there was never lack of new bloods and new style of playing. Its become harder and harder to win a tournament.
And the other is dealing with the media and fans, as some star players just highly idolized.. I read an article about FIYS not respected esport professional 'there is no love life for professional player, just love for gaming' . Honestly i dont agree with this, my rl male idol is just 22 years old, if he meet the girl he like but he cant start ralationship because of his fans doesn't agree of him dating then I'll be ashamed because as a fan i dont have such requirement for myself and im sure the other fans have romantic entanglement in their life as well.. Like how LSC said its just so selfish to want our idol focus studying for exam and not allowed to think anything else awhile we played around ourselves even though we have exam in our live as well..
Love O2O have storyline that follow closely from the novel so its good, though not the best from Gu Man's novels adaptation.. Zheng Shuang not expressionless but she is a bit stiff and awwarkd sometime, Yang Yang very much Xiao Nai but sometime his gesture just look too deliberate and unnatural.. And FL's gaming costumes just hideous.. But their acting still in my acceptable range, though i still prefer Weiwei in movie version..
Dont worry Im not forced myself Lol.. thats why im vocal about my like and dislike. Hopefully im not a damper for other, but just to add some honest view. My feeling about the drama is though i disliked some part, I still love the rest that why im so invested in the details. I cant give reviews before watched a drama at least two time, in FIYS i rewatched four time till now. Just to be sure about the comparison with the novel and objective about the flaws of it. Regretfully things that i found as unsatisfactory like FL's lack of expression or the removed high light scenes is a major thing through the drama that I cant ignore it to fully enjoy the things i love. In this I really envy you, its hard to be so picky minded 😭😭
Wow your choice of drama seem to be mostly mature one. I watched Healer and Hotel Del Luna as well, but i mostly prefer a light hearted story with HE.. And even till now there just one or two that I really really love.. its a drama where I can watched again and again, perfectly in love with the story line and the characters, the ending and is very memorable .. but I hardly like a serious drama with heavy conflict, just some fluffy one with sometime unrealistic romance.. its good if its super quality, but even its so so, as long I like it, and there is no unacceptable mistakes, then its okay.. Its not even about rating or statistic, guess im just for 100% satisfaction as well.. so i definitely dont think you have low standard at all XD

Actually the novel is quite light hearted and fluffy one.. as MC and ML both is simple and calm.. But i guess from the teaser the drama will be amplified the conflict of their career? and some family drama? Aside from Gu Man's its always guaranteed that drama adapted from her novel always closely following the original work, not sure if TOOL will be stay to the original storyline too

Agree the YAMG team really did a super job, i dont think they disappoint the fans that waited for this drama to air for so long... Quality just very obvious in screen! Im very picky for drama adaptation and this year im very disappointed with a drama that adapted from one of my fav novel because it doesnt come out so well.. but for YAMG I'm unable to find fault from acting to storyline its all just perfect !!

Reading the novel, its different.. Though still good written and light hearted story, but the novel not very memorable for me.. But im so excited after its confirmed that the leads will be Yang Zi and Xiao Zhan.. And from the teaser this seem to be pretty interesting drama as well.. We fans wait for so long already, I hope this will be a quality work like YAMG

I have different opinion as I really dislike Xia Qing
.. Okay we can accept it as immaturity and self confident when she like YT just because he is handsome, smart and popular, someone that matched with herself.. we know the younger YT maybe think like that too.. Its okay too when she break up with him because she can't accept his life choice, she want succes, money, prestige but YT choose inconventional way for himself, so breaking up with him is still just realistic, though it show that she never had deep feeling or understand him.. But she is jealous of QJJ in high school because she is prettier, and gloating when QJJ got rejected by YT.. When she got together with YT she manipulated her friends so they can bring news to QJJ just to show off she can get the man QJJ cant.. After the break up she talk around to her friends , justifying herself that she is right to break up with someone like YT that dont know to cherish his talent, she make YT so bad so she can get everyone's symphaty.. She tried several relationship with man that she deem as her ideal, unlike YT, but she find out they are not as handsome as him or as smart.. So after she feel like she is succesful and doesn't need worry about money anymore she start to contemplated that even if he is poor YT still ideally acceptable to show off, smart and handsome man.. But then in their group she saw a post about YT repaired an air pacifier to his friend home, she become ashamed with his profession and canceled her plan to consider YT.. Just when she found out that YT resigned and will work in finance that she 'got soothed' and finally approach him, in super rude manner as well as she ridiculed his failure and offered that she will help him to climb the ladder.. honestly my feeling and my pride will be so hurt if im YT.. Thankfully YT is very clearminded and doesnt give her the chance.. And the she commented that if QJJ saw them maybe she will laugh because she is way more succesful than them now, like what the heck not everyone nasty hearted and love flaunt like you! But her act that make me so angry is when she learned that YT and QJJ seem to be together so she goes crazy drunk calling YT and then harrased him to meet her .. For what? she want to confirm and after she see how it seem like QJJ indeed involved with YT she start to badmouthing and practically framing QJJ as someone that can survive in entertaintment industry through dirty means.. That just low and disgusting.. Honestly i cant like her because she just never grown up and still think just herself that deserved to be in pedestal with everyone just below her and cant be better than her.. She look for a man not for love but so she want to fullfill her superiority complex.. She said that YT wasted her time but its her that wasted everyone's time , maybe in her several relationships there someone that really loved her but she never appreciated a person feeling.. what she want is everyone shine to make herself brighter and have proud life

There is two reason I can think of
1) Because YT promise to be more proactive, as he will honestly and openly show his love to QJJ from now on

2) Because his regret, and protectivness , he regret so much about their high school days. How he ignored QJJ's sincere and innocent feeling because of his pride and prejudice. In the KTV where everyone is from the high school days, and then he remember his rejection to QJJ maybe become a ridicule for her in their school days and even till now where in the first eps someone used it to smear QJJ's name.. It to show QJJ that he regret it, and he will protect her.. and to show their classmates, that he YT never look down at QJJ.. in the past and now..

But there possibility too that QJJ is so beautiful that day and our Teacher Yu was so entranced that he can't help but kissed her 😉🥰

You can read the novel as accompanying sub, as the drama follow the novel to the dot.. at least it work for me, though im not sure if its accurate or not lol

How interesting.. reading the discussion above, it seem like there is different opinion about 'idol' itself..
1) A person that originated from singing/dancing/boyband/girlband/variety and used his/her already high popularity as boost to enter acting industry
2) People that requited because they are visually attractive but dont have acting experiences or studied it before
3) People that have passion for acting, they study about seriously and usually reach step by step in their career. When they have succesful work their popularity is high so they idolized by many so they can be regarded as idol actor because they have huge fanbase for their work loved by fans.

Honestly all this time i just think idol drama as term used for target audiences, that is a drama for young teen and on their twenty.. Its not talking about show quality or merit of their actors.. But if we take idol drama as for the kind of people the actor is, then from the three above, idek which one is more suitable.. As I think acting quality is very much depending of each individual.. I have my fav actor whom I think deserved award for their acting talent in those three categories .. But indeed there was much nepotism and chances that grabbed by unworthy people as well because nowdays the (1) and (2) seem to be selected even without caring about the basic acting talent anymore.. Well this is the currently reality of drama industry.. Shoot me if im wrong
But I hope the 'idol drama' term is not used to categorizing the real good talented actors and the one that did terrible job no matter how popular the are in the same level.. Its hurt to placed the actors with obviously put so much effort and have huge talent with people who have popularity but no acting talent in the same term of 'idol' as if their acting level is the same 😭😭

Its understandable if its painful for you, my doctor friend said she feel many second hand embarrassment when watching medical drama as well😂😂
But this is indeed my fav of Gu Man's novel, maybe because the novel bring out the reversal role from your usual traditional virtue, as the FL is way more succesful from ML.. and we have an idealistic dreamer ML who in his late twenty faced a reality slap that he questioning his own view of life.. but FL's appearance in the end bring clarity and realization.. So its not your usual ML is domineering and succesful and innocent, struggling FL.. Honestly im with you that im not sure about Diralba, I never like her past work but not sure if its because her acting or because her dramas just not my cup of tea.. But im so pleasantly surprised with her in You Are My Glory, its like Qiao Jing Jing is a role perfectly for her as she can bring out all Qiao Jing Jing's quality in novel, she is assertive, witty, lovely, and very visually pleasing.. Her chemistry and Yang Yang just beautiful.. Yang Yang maybe did his best work in screen this time, as he can perfectly potray ML's emotional undercurrent and struggle.. As you know Gu Man's novel adaptation always have her as script writer, so we dont need to worry much about the unreasonable changes that make the drama have different feel from the novel.. I think this drama is very careful in handling the adaptation from cast selection to acting quality and the accuracy of story line so its like the novel just come out alive.. Im with you with traumatic experience of the tragedy in novel to drama adaptation, like FIYS.. To the point Im fearful when You Are My Glory first come out, but again im so pleasantly surprised and so touched with how YAMG turned out so far.. If you like Gu Man's then you maybe can read You are My Glory as people's concluded this as Gu Man's moat matured work

Agree with 'why just 31 eps' .. the drama can make longer eps without removed parts from novel and everyone will be happy lol.. I MTLing the novel some time ago, that time english translation just started and I can't wait to read the whole thing because its so funny lol.. but MTL very confusing as there many complicated terms so i follow the translator's update even till now, maybe that why im so immersed with the storyline lol.. I love webnovel and ventured many genres but gaming is very special for me because I love gaming growing up (though not so good at it😅) and idolized some RL professional players (btw im curious for some time now if your ID is taken from Leblanc of LoL, are you playing game too?) So the many appearance of gaming element novel just a welcome.. can't remember what my first gaming novel was but the first memorable one is korean Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, a classic game novel with virtual reality theme, there was many more with similiar MMORPG theme though i dont read or dropped the majority of them, just picked several that i really love like Ark, Emperor of Solo Play, The King Avatar etc.. Its all good but maybe because its male author, there was no romance or even if there some then it just glazed over and unsatisfactory.. My girly heart longing more for a balance between romantic-ness and exciting adventure, so i love Gu Man's A Slight Smile Is Very Charming straight away, and hunted similiar romance with gaming element since.. My top 5 romance gaming is A Slight Smile is Very Charming (Love O2O) , Why Not Soar Your Majesty (a true comedic relief novel), You are My Glory (another Gu Man's novel) and You Are Beautiful When You Smile (adapted to FIYS), Those Sweet Time.. Honey Stewed Squid not really have strong gaming element for me, because FL is not gamer at all, but because the drama adaptation Go Go Squid, I become so in love with the novel as well.. Actually there is many more, esp if you love japanese shojou.. there some other too in chinese webnovel, but regretfully im super picky I just want some fluffy, light hearted but lovable chemistry CP in well written storyline in my romantic gaming novel so maybe I missed many.. I have many rec though for romance novels that without gaming theme hehe..
Btw in my top 5, YBWYS is still the best in gaming element. In the other we just have gaming as the fun element like the catalyst to make the CP meet each other, but their real life is not solely for game, gaming just a casual intermezzo in their story..
In YBWYS because FL and ML is both professional player, so their gaming style and venture described in detail and thrilling, with their relationship up and down is linked by their passion for gaming.. Things that till now just happen in male author's novel.. like The King’s Avatar, that adapted very well in the drama even with slight change as the original story just very long, but regretfully dont have sweet romance ..
That's why my expectation is so high for YBWYS's drama adaptation.. it just have everything, cute and heartwarming love story and exciting, vivid gaming atmosphere.. But it not just because of the novel, objectively even without the reader's perspective, I'll still hesistated to give FIYS the full mark review even after rewatched till almost four time just to be sure.. FIYS is very good in visual and balance between romance, friendship, gaming, cyber interaction, comedic relief and how Xu Kai's just so charismatic and spot on as LSC, the other cast pretty memorable as well even if there was no detailed back story but we dont forget their presence.. But indeed FL's lack of expression still bother me to really enjoy their interaction even though i did your advice to watch their BTS and the rushed ending just dont give justice to how ZGDX become the winner of tournament.. Its like how i watched Gank Your Heart without any expectation, and super love it till script writer added a cliche conflict, and it just destroy the enjoyment for the whole drama.. But its my fault to be so picky lol so I understand if other doesn't agree with my feeling. Do you watch drama often?
