Thank you for taking the time and writing your post.I am a huge Yibo fan, and apologies to Akage girl, but I also…
Hi, thanks for taking your time to read my long comment haha i definitely agree, if the Author did not like something, they should have kept it to themselves or discussed the positive.
I especially love how educational DDU is, while still being entertaining and funny. I love all of the hosts on it.
I think Gank Your Heart is very underrated for an esports drama! I felt so impacted and inspired by both the leads, and the side characters. While it was a modern romance story, i found it very natural and even learned some life lessons.
Also, I watched SDC3 for Yibo at first but all of the dancers are so talented! (And his dance battles omg)
But I relate w you - I've become a fan of so many c-actors, but lately Yibo has been taking over my radar. He's just so talented and hardworking, that I wished a post that would be on the home page of MDL can show new fans how amazing he is. Hoping new fans will take the positives from the article and comments and make judgments about the rest after seeing his works.
My friend recently suggested I sign up for MDL so I can share my love for dramas and celebs with others. I was so happy to see that someone had made a post dedicated to Wang Yibo, but as I read through your “fan guide”, it made me feel more sad and upset more than anything.
As someone who has been a fan of Yibo for a long time, I was hoping to see a post that encourages new fans to check out all of his content and learn more about him. However, your guide misses a lot of information that accurately represents Yibo (especially him currently) and is not updated with shows that he has recently been trending for.
For a fan guide, a lot of this post is very opinionated (instead of focusing on facts/information), such as reviews of his shows and dramas, which affect whether readers watch or not. While I think it’s great to share opinions, quite a bit of them are not positive and some you have not even watched yet (such as Gank Your Heart and Chinese Odyssey Part 3). Gank Your Heart aligns with a lot of modern cdramas, in the sense that characters may be comedic and cliche, and your review makes people go into the drama with a bad impression of everything about it except Ji Xiang Kong. You also mention “the strange hair in cdramas”, but a lot of the time, for dramas that aren’t set in the modern world, the hairstyles are supposed to be (or are inspired by) historical styles, even in fantasy dramas, and calling it strange may be a little offensive. In addition, about your comment for Produce 101 having only one female, I think it depends on the season of the show and availability of industry professionals. For example, Idol Producer Season 1 (boy group) and Youth With You Season 2 (girl group) both had 2 extremely popular female coaches, regardless of the group they were creating. But mentioning something like this in your review can influence the way people view the show, and in my opinion, is irrelevant to a fan guide about Yibo. PD101 was extremely popular in China and was not meant to make people feel uncomfortable, and it started the trend of having big idol survival programs. Your reviews of these may have the opposite effect - instead of encouraging people to watch, they may deter people from trying it, which negates the hard work he has put into each of his works that he wants to share with his fans.
I appreciate all the hard work you went through to research and write this, but I think calling it a fan guide, not having updated accurate info, and writing reviews that say “___ does not look good” will mislead and spread false information to new fans and may cause fans to not support the hard work he puts into the things he is passionate about. I was hoping for a post that was informative and allows new fans to go into his works with a positive impression, but a lot of it was you recommending or not recommending something. Instead, I feel that a guide should introduce all content in a neutral or positive light, and have fans decide after seeing it for themselves whether they like it or not.
Also for some additional information: - Yibo is also known for his music - he sings OSTs for dramas, like GYH and The Untamed, and has notable singles released, for ex. No Sense, Lucky, Fire (and more) - He’s currently on Street Dance of China Season 3 as one of the captains and this show is extremely popular right now. - His drama that was filmed a few years ago “My Strange Friend” is currently airing on iQIYI. - He’s made an appearance on Happy Camp recently. - Upcoming dramas: Being a Hero and Legend of Fei, both of which have begun releasing promotional pictures or videos.
But to answer your questions at the end, The Untamed and Gank Your Heart both rank the highest and second highest spots on my cdrama rankings, respectively. The Untamed was just amazing, but Gank Your Heart was also very good. The whole concept was very realistic, and as a gamer myself, I enjoyed seeing the esports theme be shown in a way that wasn't just a cheesy romance (since they were acquaintances or friends for majority of the show). I'm also enjoying him on Street Dance of China 3 and watching his old dance performances and live stages, since his stage presence is really good.
