Shin yu didn't go to buy medicine. He had observed the gardener's car and wanted to go check. That was stupid, no doubt, as in such cases one is supposed to lock himself into a safe place. He had also called the police
Regarding shin yu getting married and having children after killing Hong jo, it was clearly said in her curse, that the one who kills her will die horribly by next full moon.
Also there was shown a substantial time gap between Hong Jo refusing to run with him and their reunion. Also he was under severe pressure to marry the ministers daughter by his father
Now some will say that he was cheating his wife with Hong Jo but then Joseon era morality when men were allowed multiple wives should not be judged by today's standards.
