The contrast with her bro's brash ( but in character) ways even back then showed how these two sensitive and caring souls are right for each other. This is such a lovely contemporary romance! I've tried reading the novel but I'm not Chinese so the English version does not do justice for me.. The drama however has all the right feels! The male lead's characterization is so good and actually very unique for Asian dramas. Has angst in his background but is so sorted and mature.. His charming smile and the way he looks at her like is so taken and charmed by her really amps up the romance. This is actually a very layered story of two very caring people. Their age difference which is just 5 in the drama version is actually very cute. It's quite common in Asian societies and makes the partner someone the female can lean on and look up to. I just love how the role has been written for the drama and how the actor always always stays in character ...so mature, responsible, caring, charmed and charming. How he handled the reveal with her bro was so manly, dignified and decent. Completely in line with the characterization in the drama. It's actually quite fitting to see that he was loved by sang zhi for so many years, after his tough life experiences he deserves this kind of unconditional and unwavering love. I see a lot of comments on his not viewing her romantically till she was an adult. For me personally it does not really matter. What matters is the connection they have always had, the care and attention he always lavished her with and how imp she is to him as evidenced by him having her pic on his mantle piece. I had some reservations about the 16 year old sang zhi (not the actresses' fault as that was her brief to appear somewhat childish) but I am really enjoying her 20 year old self. She has grown into an extremely beautiful, poised and confident woman. She really is an irresistible package and it is no wonder that he has fallen for her so hard!
