So, I might be missing something important here, maybe I wasn't as attentive as I should've been, but did the outbreak at the prison get resolved? It was made clear that Na Yi Je would have to face serious consequences for not being there in time but I didn't really see any of these consequences happening. Did I miss something, or is that just a plothole that doesn't bother anyone else?
I've watched it just recently and I have to agree with you on most parts. As someone who found their way to MDL by watching live adaptions from Manga and Anime before growing an interest in Asian Drama overall I've watched a lot, and one thing that I always kept on my mind was that you have to see it as it's own medium. Just like other film-adaptations from books, not everything can be included in an 80~120min film, not every character can look spot on without seeming ridiculous. When bringing fiction to "real life", one must sacrifice some minor aspects for major ones, and the importance of aspects remains subjective. Especially considering Manga and Anime (specifically shounen), a lot of the physical features are exaggerated beyond anything realistically feasible. Taking Ichigo's Hair for example, I think they did a great job, it looked almost natural. (If you ever saw whatever Yamada Ryosuke had stuck to his head in FMA you might know where I'm coming from, though you might've not been bothered as much as I was)
All in all I enjoyed the Movie quite a lot, and I feel that a lot of people do not have enough consideration for the huge challenge that is re-imagining drawn or written media into real life.
These are amazing, The one about Scholar who walks the night actually made me laugh, like, with sound and all. Haven't had that for awhile, so thank you. Great Article!
So, I have watched all of the dramas mentioned above, except Full House and I have to agree with you on pretty much everything you said.
I, for my part, considered the romance in City Hunter and LMIYD as a subplot from the start. Not so much for Pinocchio but I came to terms with it considering the fact that not all relationships are perfect and some are unbalanced in many ways. I can see that around me all the time so if anything it made the romance seem more realistic to me. If one party loves the other for years and years one-sidedly and the other party just fell in love with them OF COURSE there would be an imbalance. (I think.) As for Love O2O, YES the romance was super stiff and the conversations just weird and possessive, BUT it was so refreshing to have something like a ''trouble-free'' relationship. As much as I love and enjoy the tropes, not seeing that jealousy-driven-not-quite-breakup-but-breakup was something different and fairly enjoyable. And last but not least (well..kind of least as well): Playful Kiss. I read the Manga when I was about 12. Watched the Anime, watched the japanese and korean Drama. I always thought it was bad but I couldn't stop myself, mainly because the plot goes further. It didn't just stop after them being happy together, not even after the marriage, it continued. Not that it was good but it was something different. For me it's something similar to Dragonball Z.. I know it's not THAT great but I grew up with it and I love it despite all it's flaws.
Of course all of that is just my own Opinion, so feel free to argue. :)
