FYI for anyone who watched the movie instead of the series and doesn't know, there is an extra post credits scene at the end that was cut out of the movie version but can be found at the end of episode 8 of the series version.

Watch it. You won't regret it. You could also start with Hana Yori Dango (Japanese Version of Boys Over Flowers) which is the original. It's the closest story wise and not as long but just as good if not better (acting is better for sure haha) This one is Cheesy, it drags a bit but overall is #2 of my favorites of all the versions, having only just today been knocked out of the top spot because I just finished the HYD trilogy. I will say, however, the OST and visuals of Meteor Garden is MUCH better. The Japanese Version Boys Over Flowers trilogy is free on Viki. Season 1 (Boys Over Flowers) is 9 episodes, Season 2 (Boys Over Flowers 2 Returns) is 11 episodes (episode 1 of season 2 is almost 2 hrs long though lol) and Season 3 (Boys Over Flowers the Movie) is a 2 hr movie.
