“What kind of rich folks would meet their in-laws over a pork cutlet?”. (you know, the absurdity of Kdrama to insert ads by featuring the restaurant no matter how inappropriate like Jisung who kept going to TGIF Friday’s in Secret Love).
Funny Lee Deok Hwa. I could watch him watching a drama (a drama within a drama) and making snide comments
Anyone knows the ratings in Korea? is it doing good for TVN? Because this is as good as any TVN/Netflix show tho
Higher than its predecessor Yumi’s Cells. Yumi’s Cells was heavily promoted and popular webtoon. Highest it achieved was 2%+ range. Happiness wasn’t well promoted and is in 3%+ range. I think the time slot is pretty bad.
Such a great episode 9. In truth, I’ve been feeling somewhat disconnected, even if impressed with production values. Episode 9 brought back the heart. Nicely played led by Jisung.
It helped there was less screen time for the evil foundation members. They’re one dimensional and just not very interesting
Ep 7 - I’m happily lapping up Jisung being a (somewhat overly) protective uncle. When asked “do you even think about Eli”, he replied “Constantly”. Swoon! I’m looking forward to Jisung and Jinyoung being on the same side with the latest reveal.
What I don’t appreciate - caricature evil characters. Led by Kim Min Jung who overacts with every word, every step, every gesture. In the hands of a more subtle actress, I might’ve felt conflicted with her character. But now I’m just annoyed
Beyond Evil - congratulations. A smartly written well acted drama.
The only downside is you get used to this level of excellence, it spoiled me from enjoying other dramas ( eg the flashy Vincenzo that I felt was more style over substance, despite my love for Song Joong Ki)
If there was a best soundtrack category, I would also award to Beyond Evil.
I like ep4. Action turned up a whole notch without losing sight of the characters.
I don’t over analyse the logic, just having fun with the scenes.
I’m the type who cringe at cliche romcom gestures but I like how the connection was presented here. It came across fresh and swoon worthy without being sentimental, just right.
I loved the first 20 minutes too! I wish the whole series had that same vibe.I totally understand what you mean…
I would welcome dry wit / sarcastic humour but unfortunately the humour is the lowest kind - physical type/ over the top / stupid expressions (like the chef) . And reduced the well regarded Be Melodramatic actress into shrill overacting.
Ah well, I have a lot of goodwill for Song Joong Ki and he didn’t disappoint
Then the in-your-face comedy aspect got jarring. It’s not even dark comedy but the lowest kind - slapstick/toilet humor.
Song Joong Ki was consistently good. His smirk reminded me of his ambiguous character in Nice Guy/Innocent Man.
The supporting cast are well regarded, if we can unleash them properly.
I’m hoping this will have more Money Flower vibes (sane director) , not the “unsubtle / in your face” comedy (same writer as Chief Kim. I respect NGM but I got exasperated with the repetitive comedy aspects of Chief Kim).
I thought I would be bored once they get to the Start-up part - as it’s all about business plans - but the selection process was pulsating with energy. Great editing, the beautiful ppt helped but also understanding the backstory/ motivation of the characters
Ooh, so great to see Family Honor in the list! It’s an underrated gem that unfortunately is not widely accessible to newer Kdrama audience. The OTP is so addictive and compelling while family scenes are heartwarming. I like that the ML was the scion of the rich family but he’s the real power and decision maker, while respecting/ honouring his family. It’s also rare for the OTP to both come from well to do families, and I must say they’re well matched!
From your list, I also highly rate My Daughter Seo Young - Lee Sang Yoon never looked better. Enjoyed ( but with flaws) Father is Strange and Smile You (my intro to Jung Kyung Ho).
It's becoming to be a bit far-fetched. I'm a little disappointed
Agree. This Kdrama is going for style vs substance. It’s medically inaccurate. The characters are so inconsistently disappointing, but people tag it as character growth.
All that anti-social behaviour from FL. It was what set it apart at the start. But it’s all window dressing. Apparently she just needs to be healed by love. What cliche. They dressed up with gothic costumes and it’s just a formulaic love story.
Then the far fetched twist just to surprise us. If it turns out to be true, it’s just not believable. If not, then it’s unnecessary conflict.
I can’t help comparing It’s OK that’s love. It is so much brilliant. It didn’t sugar coat, though it ended happily, it didn’t flinch from difficult process of healing.

However I feel it’s like a vignette. More style over substance.

I still have hope let’s see.
