It’s a thought-provoking tale

Story: Light Shop tells a story that explores themes of trauma, near-death experiences, grief, redemption, guilt, sacrifice, love, and loss. While the interconnected narratives may seem a bit disjointed at first, everything gradually falls into place as the story delves deeper into its core mysteries.

It’s a thought-provoking tale that highlights how even the smallest actions can lead to life-altering consequences.

Casting: The cast delivers mostly strong performances, with certain actors standing out more than others. While there are moments of underwhelming execution from a few, the overall portrayals are convincing enough to keep the audience immersed in the story.

Overall: Light Shop strikes a delicate balance between mystery and heartfelt storytelling, with subtle horror elements that may not be particularly frightening but add to the atmosphere. The underlying message is both poignant and reflective, offering plenty of food for thought, especially for viewers with a spiritual inclination.

Betrayal, revenge and dangerous games

Story: The story revolves around betrayal, revenge and abuse. The pace is a little slow, but it doesn't feel boring because the story takes its time explaining what's happening and why the characters are making certain choices.

There is also plenty of action, especially as the characters find themselves in dangerous situations where they have to think quickly. One thing I liked was the emphasis on teamwork. Working together not only gives them a better chance of getting out of trouble, but also allows them to come up with ideas that wouldn't have been possible on their own.

Characters: The cast did a good job with their roles and each character had their part to play. For me, good acting is when the actors can actually make you feel something. Whether it's anger, frustration, sympathy or tension, if I find myself reacting to what's happening, then I think the role has been embraced properly.

That's what I liked about the cast here. Their performances made the situations feel more believable and kept me invested in what was happening.

Overall: I enjoyed watching Danger of Her. It has betrayal, revenge, dangerous games and plenty of action, while also showing that working together can make a difference when things get complicated.

The slower pace might not work for everyone, but I didn't find it an issue. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something with dangerous situations, revenge and characters trying to turn the tables on each other.

As a fan of xxxHOLIC, that it was a great adaptation.

The characters felt very close to the anime and the acting was really good.

I haven’t read the manga ,so I am going to refer to the anime.

The acting was really good, and I especially enjoyed Adachi Yumi’s (Jorogumo) performance. She was enjoyably evil.

Furthermore, it was nice to see outdoor scenes.

I noticed that they made some changes to the script, which I found unnecessary since the anime has a lot of material to cover.

In addition, the episodes are only 8 and rather short at that.

For a series like this, you need more and longer episodes.

The opening and ending themes were well-chosen.

Overall, it is a good drama to watch, whether you’re a fan of xxxHOLIC or not, and I must say that I would definitely rewatch it.

Script-wise, it kept me on my toes the whole time.

There were many plot twists and moments when you thought you knew what was going to happen next, but you really couldn’t predict it! Very unpredictable!

It’s one of those series that makes you doubt and become more suspicious of everything. On the other hand, it’s a drama that evokes compassion for the villain through Inspector Koo’s words and the villain’s actions when something terrible happens in her life, and she tries to cope with it later in the series.

Inspector Koo is a very strong woman who needs to keep herself busy all the time to avoid recalling her past. Throughout the series, we see how she tries to cope with the loss of a loved one and how it has affected her entire being, not just her personality.

Moreover, while watching the series, I felt torn by the killer’s actions because it raised a question: Should we take matters into our own hands or let justice be served (before it’s too late)? To clarify, I don’t condone any criminal acts.

Last but not least, the cast’s delivery was spot on.

Lee Young Ae and Kim Hye Joon played their roles perfectly, and I liked the chemistry between them. I also liked the chemistry between Lee Young Ae and her team, Baek Sung Chul, and Kwak Sun Young.

Another thing I enjoyed is the OST. The songs fit like a glove and are very catchy too.

Overall, it is a great drama to watch and its rewatch value is high.

I was left with more questions than answers

Story: At first, I thought the story was okay, so I kept watching, thinking maybe everything would come together in the end. At least that’s what I thought. The story was confusing, and it made no sense to me. I am not sure if it had potential, but the execution was bad, so we will never know.

The whole execution felt so weird to me. We never found out anything about Yun O’s past or what motivated him to start killing people. Also, his mother is mentioned, and Gi Eun wanted to find out more about her, but then she forgot about it and went back to pursuing him, even though her life had been in danger twice already and she barely made it out alive. Yun O even broke into her house.

Kim Sum has been taken advantage of by Samantha for so many years now, as it is obvious that Samantha only cares about money and success. It feels like she sees people as South Korean Won symbols. She even threatened Yun O that she would expose him to Kim Sum if he didn’t stop communicating with Kim Sum because Kim Sum is her income source. It’s not like she has her best interest at heart.

Moreover, another thing that struck me as odd is that some of the characters, like Samantha, for example, have evidence that Yun O is up to no good, so instead of calling the police, she just lets him be and continues killing people.

In the end, we see Kim Sum killing Yun O. What happened to his body afterward? Did the police find him?

I was left with more questions than answers, to be honest. My list of examples is long, but I think I should stop here as I am sure that how I feel about this drama is obvious.

Casting: The acting was tolerable, maybe apart from Kang Hae Lim (Kim Sum), who had to play an autistic person. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to autism, so I will exclude her. Besides, it wasn’t her acting that bothered me the most.

Kim Young Kwang’s acting was mediocre, to say the least. What’s up with those smiles all the time? Those dramatic pauses? If you give people cringey smiles, they will think you’re dangerous?

He had the opportunity to show us his true colors when he got upset and broke Somebody in Kim Sum’s garage. I expected some kind of emotion, but no.

OST: The OST was okay. It seemed like it was mostly used to give the scenes a dramatic tone.

Overall: I feel like I wasted my time.

The story will keep you on your toes.

Story: The story will keep you on your toes. It is packed with lies, deceit, murder, masks, self-loathing, revenge, and depravity. This drama is different from what I am used to watching, and I liked it. I also liked how every episode focused on a certain character, and in the final one, we have the mother and daughter together. It is their story and reunion.

Casting: The casting was amazing. The actors brought their characters to life.

We have three major character developments here.

Mo Mi aka mask girl. She starts as a girl with ambitions and dreams, only to have her dreams stolen because of her appearance. She transforms completely, assumes a new identity, and tries to survive. I wouldn’t call it living because I think that on the inside, she always thinks that she will get caught one day, even though she looks nothing like the person she used to be. After a series of events, she turns herself in and goes to prison. There, she tries to eat before getting eaten and succeeds, only to be deceived and lied to. She quickly realizes it and escapes. She finally makes the ultimate sacrifice, which is when I believe she found true salvation and freedom. She is a tragic figure in this story.

Mo Mi’s mother, Young Hee. Throughout the drama, we see a cold, reserved exterior that contributed to Mo Mi ending up like that. She had no one to believe in her but herself. I wish her mother had shown more affection towards her. Later, we see that she at least tried to save her granddaughter, even though she is done with her and her behavior. Her death was a way for her to repent for being the mother she was and to hope to be seen as the mother she wanted to be or the mother she knew she could be.

Kyung Ja. The mother doesn’t know when to stop and is in denial. Her son was a depraved pervert who raped Mo Mi and called that saving and protection. She saw with her own eyes what kind of life her son led, and yet she wanted to exact revenge on the person who killed her son. Sure, he was killed, and that’s bad, but is it? What are the chances of him having a real family or a girlfriend? Kyung Ja was ashamed of him when he was alive. Apart from all that, she will stop at nothing until she kills the "Mask Girl."

When the latter went to prison, she found out about her daughter, so she changed her plans and wanted to kill the girl instead—her granddaughter. It’s rather ironic when Mi-mo tells her that she would give her everything that her son wouldn’t/couldn’t, and she has to lie to her friends about it. She let rage blind her, and before she died, she managed to achieve her goal. She felt like even God was by her side. The delusion was strong with that one.

Overall: Mask Girl is a story that shows how one bad moment or decision can ruin your life. Then, it just feels like your whole life is like domino pieces waiting to fall.

This drama should have been a romantic one from the start.

Story: First of all, the drama should have been way shorter. It appears that the main plot is about a dangerous criminal, not Bong-soon’s love triangle, which kind of happens out of the blue. Many episodes were spent on her generic lovey-dovey romance with her boss, and then we have the cop guy suddenly falling for her, forgetting about his job, which is to catch the criminal!

It felt as if they put a pin on the abductions for a while and then unpinned them when they were needed! It does make you wonder which plot is the primary one because it feels like the main plot became a secondary one. After episode 8, things felt more disorganized and inconsistent, like the video editors never communicated with each other before delivering the edited episodes.

Casting: The actors who play secondary characters act better than the leads in most episodes, especially better than Park Bo Young (Do Bong Soon).

Overall: In my opinion, this drama should have been a romantic one from the start—no murders, no crimes, no mystery. The creators showed that her power could be utilized after all in episode 16. This is something they could have done from the very beginning.

It is one of those drama series where the main plot isn’t enough.

Story: The story is interesting and intriguing enough. People who have grudges get healed in their dreams by the mysterious Wol-ju. Wol-ju was sent to the Life Realm to atone for her sins, and to do that, she needs to heal 100,000 people because she killed that many 500 years ago.

It is one of those drama series where the main plot isn’t enough, so unnecessary elements are added, like the people closest to you being your boyfriend and unborn son, plus an evil spirit after you that needs to exact his revenge.

When that part became the main plot, it became pointless for me to watch.

Casting: Yook Sung Jae, who played Han Kang Bae, gave an amazing and very emotional performance. The rest of the cast was okay.

Overall: I would have enjoyed it more if it had stuck to the original plot. Hotel Del Luna did it better.

The sins of the fathers are visited upon the children.

Story: Technically, everyone wants to cover their tracks and save their skin after they mess up. I would blame the arrogance that most of these characters show, especially, if not exclusively, the ones who are in a position of power.

In my opinion, this drama shouldn’t be called “The Lies Within.” I would call it “It Ends With Us,” as most characters were sacrificed to stop a tragedy that started 20 years prior or to prevent the exposure of said tragedy.

Furthermore, this drama serves as a good example of how the sins of the fathers are visited upon the children.

Casting: The best acting, for me, came from Seo Hyeon-woo. He had an unsettling aura every time he appeared on screen. He conveyed so much without saying anything.

Lee Min-ki, playing the detective, is well-suited for the role, but there were times when I wanted him to express more anger. For instance, discovering that his colleague of 10 years had been accepting bribes, obstructing justice, tampering with evidence, and even killing a fellow colleague to cover up crimes—wouldn’t that truly infuriate anyone? I expected more intensity from his character.

Lee Yoo-Young’s acting fell short for me. While I understand that portraying a doormat can be challenging, her performance didn’t convince me.

Main Characters:

Seo-hee: It felt as if this character never truly grew or developed throughout the story. I don’t understand why she received a redemption/salvation arc in the end. What purpose did it serve? Nothing substantial. From the very beginning, she seemed incapable of acting independently. Despite numerous suspicious events, she continued to trust the wrong people. Ultimately, all she did was cry, scream, and wait for her husband to return. An annoying and predictable character combination.

Tae-Sik: There’s a poignant scene where he daydreams of his sister forgiving him and wishing him a happy life. While it provided some closure, I believe that losing a loved one—whether family, friend, or partner—is an experience from which one can never fully recover.

Overall Impression: The drama was okay to watch, but I can’t say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot was rather predictable, although there was an unexpected reveal.

Make-it-make-sense-scenes: The police charged Jo Tae Shik because he happened to be next to Ho Gyu on the night of his murder. No evidence, nothing substantial, and yet they aired this fact on national television. Their justification for killing him was revenge for his suspension due to something Tae Shik did. Curiously, he didn’t implicate his team during the Internal Affairs investigation. If he truly wanted to kill someone, why not target Dae Yong or the chief of police?

And just when you think Seo-hui can’t sink any lower, she surprises you with her ignorance and heroine syndrome! She’s willing to sacrifice everyone and go to prison. Unfortunately, she fails to grasp that exposing her father-in-law would spell the end for her and everyone associated with her. Perhaps she’s delusional or just plain foolish. While helping others in need is commendable, the damage has already been done—she can’t save anyone at this point.

There are times when it makes you wonder and question things, but that’s part of the suspense.

Story: The story is kind of fast-paced, nothing too complicated but the special effects are rather realistic and fascinating. There are times when it makes you wonder and question things, but that’s part of the suspense. The only aspect I disliked was the villain’s death. It could have been more spectacular.

The ending is good and shows that we all have a purpose in life, and that we need to let go of the past to move freely into the present and future.

Casting: The acting was okay, and kudos to Jang Na Ra (Hong Ji Ah) for making my TV leak with her constant crying.

I liked Jang Na Ra’s acting, and it was apparent that all the actors tried to highlight the most memorable aspects of their characters.

For example, Jung Yong Hwa (Oh In Beom) is an overconfident fraudster who uses his charm to get his way. Jang Na Ra plays a tough and cold person who is a cinnamon roll at heart.

Kang Hong Suk (Heo Ji Cheol [Chief]) knows his way around computers. Kang Mal Geum (Joo Hwa Jung) is good at keeping secrets to the point where she gets suspected. Finally, Ahn Kil Kang (Do Hak Sung) remains arrogant and self-absorbed till the very end.

Overall: Overall, I liked this drama because, even though the main characters were once again connected through their past, it didn’t overshadow the plot.

The mysteries are cleverly crafted, and they make sense.

Story: The story follows the titular character, Kindaichi Hajime, a high schooler with a genius-level intellect and a knack for solving complex murder mysteries. The series continues the tradition of intricate mysteries, often involving locked rooms, elaborate alibis, and dark motives.

Casting: The 2022 adaptation features Michieda Shunsuke (Naniwa Danshi) as Kindaichi Hajime. Michieda brings a childish yet youthful energy to the role, and I think that he succeeds in making the character accessible to a new generation. His chemistry with the supporting cast, especially Kamishiraishi Moka as Nanase Miyuki, is commendable.

On the other hand, some performances feel overly dramatic, which can detract from the tension in key moments like in the Phantom of the Opera case and in the case of the murder of Tachibana Goryu.

Overall: I liked the drama a lot, and if another adaptation is released, I’ll probably watch it. The mysteries are cleverly crafted, and they make sense.

Kill Me Love Me is a historical drama that combines themes of revenge and unexpected love

Story: Kill Me Love Me is a historical drama that skillfully combines themes of revenge, betrayal, and unexpected love. The story follows Mei Lin, a woman driven by vengeance against Prince Murong Jing He, whom she believes orchestrated the massacre of her family. Ironically, she ends up under his mentorship, sharpening her skills as an assassin while secretly plotting his downfall. As the plot thickens, secrets are unraveled, revealing that the Prince may not be her true enemy. The pacing is intense in the beginning, with many twists. However, the second half of the drama does feel slightly less cohesive, losing some of the initial momentum.

Casting: Liu Xueyi captures Murong Jing He’s complexity, exuding both strength and vulnerability. Wu Jinyan does very well as Mei Lin, delivering a layered performance that portrays her internal conflict between vengeance and growing affection. Their chemistry is palpable, making their evolving relationship believable and engaging.

The rest of the cast did a solid job, particularly Baron Chen, Zhao Xiao Tang, Shao Wei Tong and Jiang Kai.

Overall: In terms of the story, Kill Me Love Me is a good drama, though it has more episodes than necessary. Moreover, the dubbing ruined part of the experience for me. It was so obvious that it became distracting and put me off.

Zen Ryoiki Ijo Kaiketsu Shitsu presents a blend of supernatural and investigative drama.

Story: Zen Ryoiki Ijo Kaiketsu Shitsu presents a blend of supernatural and investigative drama. The story follows Okitama Miyabi, a brilliant yet enigmatic investigator, as he leads a special agency tasked with resolving paranormal anomalies. The series delves into themes of truth, fear, social media, people’s dependence on them, and the unknown. Each episode explores a unique mystery tied to Japanese folklore. The pacing is solid, though some episodes feel more impactful than others.

Casting: Fujiwara Tatsuya’s performance was amazing, as always. In fact, he is one of the reasons I decided to watch the drama. The rest of the cast was decent, with some performances standing out more than others. Perhaps the secondary characters could have benefited from a bit more screen time.

Overall: I liked this drama because it explained some supernatural phenomena based on folklore and mythology, and the plot was engaging.

Let Hotel Del Luna take you on a fantasy journey

Story: The story can be predictable but also unpredictable. One thing is for sure, it will keep you wanting more and more. It’s a story of betrayal, misunderstandings, reincarnation, hate, love, passion, revenge, and whatnot! It has it all. I am not one to cry easily, but I shed a tear or two while watching. Death and what allegedly happens after death is mentioned a lot, and we see deities helping people in dire situations as well as changing someone’s fate. It does make you wonder if death is the end.

Characters/Acting: The chemistry between the characters was good, especially between IU (Jang Man Wol) and Yeo Jin Goo (Goo Chan Sung), as well as between Yeo Jin Goo (Goo Chan Sung) and Jo Hyun Chul (Sanchez). All the characters had very intriguing stories, and I think that the casting choices were great. We have some character developments, like Jang Man Wol’s (IU) character, to mention a big one. I was very satisfied with the acting and how the actors embraced their roles.

OST: Apart from “Can You See My Heart” by HEIZE, which plays a lot in almost every episode, I discovered some more beautiful songs like “At the End” by Chung Ha, “Another Day” by Monday Kiz & Punch, and “All About You” by Taeyeon.

Overall: Give Hotel Del Luna a chance to take you on a fantasy journey where the boundaries between life and death, as well as fantasy and reality, get blurry.

It is a story that makes you think and feel. It’s a story that can happen to anyone.

Story: The story is very compelling to watch, and you can really sympathize with Moon Dong Eun. Revenge isn’t the answer to anything, but for her, it is, and it could also be her salvation. This is a very well-written scenario that shows how cruel people can be because they believe they can get away with anything, and how determined, daring, and tough someone can be to deal with the ones who destroyed their life before it ever began. I am sure we can all relate to the story, the characters, the circumstances, and whatnot. Moreover, it is an unpredictable story. For example, after each meeting between Dong Eun and them, you are on your toes to see what’s going to happen. We see that even though Son Myeong Oh and Choi Hye Jeong agreed to cooperate with her, they get so desperate for their own reasons that they end up digging their own graves instead. I don’t think that Dong Eun really needs them, but she has studied all of them enough to manipulate them and ultimately destroy them.

Cast: The cast is awesome, and the acting is top-notch. Nothing much to say really. The actors and actresses make you feel all kinds of emotions, which is what you want from them at the end of the day.

Overall: I enjoyed watching The Glory. It is a story that makes you think and feel. It’s a story that can happen to anyone. Give The Glory a chance, and I can assure you, you won’t regret it.
