I really, really enjoyed this show.
I do not like slow paced shows, I prefer not to watch Republican Era, and I am not a fan of Peking opera, yet I really liked this show. I was surprised every time an episode would finish as they seemed to go by so fast, and I did not want the series to end.
Other than the 2 MLs and a couple of second/sides, there were not a lot of other characters that I was particularly drawn to, but those few were enough to pull me in.
The 2 MLs ... I was so intrigued by their connection. The writers did an amazing job to show how their relationships grew, at times it would show brotherhood, friendship, something a little deeper but always, soulmates, from the second they lay eyes on each other.
The story was them, as you continue to watch you realize there is very little plot, you could just sit back and watch them.
Cheng Feng Tai .... The character was lovely. He was strong, resolute yet was able to yield and give so much to those he loved. He was Shang Xi Rui strength and allowed him to fall and falter to help him to grow as a person and become stronger. Always watching, always there to catch him.
His family ... Oh, how I hated them. It was not enough to ruin the show, like some others but his wife, and both sisters got on my very last nerve.
Shang Xi Rui ... What can I say about this enigmatic character. He was stubborn, emotional, sometimes beyond reason, but he was loyal and strong and stuck to his principals. He was clearly unhinged, but Cheng Feng Tai had the ability to calm and reassure him.
The ending ... I started to get worried, I panicked so halfway through this show, I did something I have never done before, I searched whether this was HE or a SE Hmmmmm I will put a little bit about that in the comments with spoilers.
