I believe the script writer deviated from the novel and the parents downgraded CSS in a private palace setting with the Emperor and Empress. So the drama made the mother look really bad. The mother fear that CSS will marry into a too powerful family and the parents family will not be able to provide support in case she is bullied in future. I do agree CSS parting remarks are well written at the epi end!
