Peak Cinematography, Story, and Lines (1st Half and 2nd Half Review)
I liked the cinematography, how they sometimes split a scene into two’s or 3’s to show multiple perspectives, it helps the viewer not miss a thing and brings about a comicy atmosphere. The FL and ML also perfected their roles to a T, their interactions are super (i’m always wanting more, when there’s a lot already), everything was believable and realistic, also loved their lines, it was thoughtful, meaningful and sometimes playful.
Although an episode is 1hr+ long, you won’t get bored as it’s so well written, you’ll crave more. the first ep was so domestic that i thought: “is this the same series i read the synopsis for,” i was seeing the potential but it hadn’t unfolded fully yet, but the ending cliffhanger made me go on to EP 2, plus the killer Outro and Intro music_right now the soundtrack’s what’s fueling me as i write this review.
First time coming across a series’s soundtrack where the female artists dominated and killed the soundtrack, in a good, melodious and vocally sound way. All in all it’s a well balanced series so far, the domestic scenes, emotional scenes and action ones (my fav so far- ep 5’s ending leading to ep 6’s_10mins+ in).
Ps- I loved how eun soo wasn’t written as a character that can’t get things done herself + she’s so unpredictable and coolheaded at the same time, a true human calculator.
PPs- As someone in the comments said, i also adore the fact that the Promotional poster is a scene from the series (ep 4_50mins+ in if u’re wondering).
__2nd Half Review__
I think their parting as partners was too soon for me, every fight they had broke my heart, they’re both so stubborn, I wish they would just sit, talk it out and plan how to navigate their problems without going behind each other’s back.
The moment they finally reconciled outside the hospice in ep10 was so touching, I loved how they zoomed out a bit and faded out the audio and you could just see all this pure emotion coming out of them.
Again, the soundtracks fueling this rant/ review_ the 12th episode seemed never ending with Jang Taegu going from one mad rollercoaster to another but with the open ending, I just wanted the series to run forever. I call it ‘Thin ice’ cause it’s like the characters are all walking a thin line between good/evil, while eun soo and james are a thread shy away from pure evil which jang Taegu portrayed, the series showcases the worst of humanity and how we adapt and it looks seemingly normal. I like how they show this flickering moments of their humanity wavering and their greediness overshadowing but their humanity always overrides that or they save each other from themselves when the other is not thinking straight (eun soo stopped James from killing Taegu while he did the same for her)
It’s rare but also nice that all characters were so human that you couldn’t detest them for long, even jang hwirim acted as the highlight of (ep 9) for me, and —-eun soo’s friend was lovable at first then a bit annoying and lastly I just sighed and felt it is what it is.. Lots died during just 2 eps, I’m glad eun young wasn’t one of them, wish she had more screen-time, she’s really cool!! While, Gyeongdo grew into the cop Taegu would be proud of. Eun soo’s daughter - Park Sua is a great kid and loving character, I hope for her sake, eun soo flushes the leftover ’VAKA’ and focuses on being the marvellous person and mother she once was and still is, the money from James is more than enough to start up something and make more.
Lastly, was James trying to commit suicide on us? A few minutes away from curtain call? Dude’s heartless lol. His family is really twisted with father signing off on imprisoning his own son for clout? And mother shying away in fear of her son, while the brother be acting like he’s rendering a favour by keeping touch. How could they all believe that and be so toxic?
Also, is it just me or did anyone else feel like James was trying to rekindle his and eun soo’s friendship? While she shyed away feeling it improper.
