Honestly, I get you. I DO adore this series because I fell in love with FadelStyle, and I won’t budge from saying that it’s JoongDunk’s best performance so far – both as a pair and individually. But calling this a “loose adaption” to Shakespeare’s play is quite a stretch.
There are parallels, undeniably, but a LOT of other series and movies have the very same trope (as in, grumpy A being manipulated into loving crazy (or calm) B, thus, A being “tamed” by B), and none of them claimed to be an adaption, loose or not. Because none of them reinvented this (plot) wheel, not even Shakespeare.
The thing is (which is the only reason I can think of why Jojo might have said it): not risking copyright infringement. Honestly, every author/screenwriter/director copies from the other – intentionally or not. But if it’s really unintentional, and then someone suddenly points out, “Oh, this kinda reminds me of XY!” you’d be immediately worried. Been there, done that. You don’t want a copy, you want your own thing. But apparently, the parent idea has been there before yours was even born, potentially.

Honestly, I get it. GMMTV has some kind of formula they use for most of their series, which makes a lot of them seem rather generic and therefore very predictable. And while three of my five favorite series are from said company (all from 2021/22), if we go a bit further down my ranking, their shows don’t appear as often anymore - even if I thought they were good, they're just not as memorable as others. And I do think a lot of their series are only more popular than others because of excessive fanservice aka delulu marketing.
That being said, I can also like some more generic ones, e.g. Only Boo! or We Are, yet I only immensely enjoy their non-formulaic BLs like Not Me or Only Friends, and so far, The Heart Killers fits this bill for me.

HOLY SHIT! I'm currently on ep9 and did NOT expect this NC scene 💀 Even without the naked bums, I'd dare say that it could easily compete with those on KinnPorsche. Just whoa.
Tbh, the first few episodes were a bit boring to me. Not boring enough to drop it, but also not good enough to keep me glued to the screen. It felt like they stretched the story over 5 episodes when it could have been told in 2-3. But then, in episode 6, the series took a sharp turn, and I was suddenly hooked! The conflicts were realistic and not unnecessarily inflated just for the sake of angst and drama – because the characters do something that is rarely seen in BLs: they COMMUNICATE.
Beer and especially Wan had my heart, and maybe I would've felt differently about the first couple of episodes if they had been given more screen time earlier on (or Win and Game while we're at it). Their kissing scenes, though... let's just say they could learn a thing or two from God and Diew 😄
All in all, it's pure fluff with very little drama, which makes it a good watch for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
