Title The Red Sleeve Spoiler
Her grasping his red sleeve at the end of ep 15 was perfection, and I adored the three episodes we got this week, but let’s also take a moment to respect the Captain, who risked his life to prevent the King from going against himself. The moment where he begs for Hong Deok Ro’s life was really well acted by everyone in the room. So powerful! This drama has great heart.

I have never needed a drama episode like I need episode 16. How am I gonna survive until then?

After seeing ep 13 preview a lot of ppl are complaining that he is manhandling Deok Im. Though we are yet to see…
I agree that we can’t expect the ML to reflect 2021 standards and sensibilities. Just as we had to accept the ML as a grandson being beaten by his grandfather (domestic violence by modern standards) we may see him reflecting the values of his times in other ways too. That said, so far (up to episode 12) the ML has overall been respectful of the FL, given his position and the historical context. I think if viewers want to see revisionist historical representation they should probably stick to American dramas like Bridgerton, which are not my cup of tea. It would be both inauthentic and absurd to faithfully apply 2021 Western societal values here given the power imbalance and the historical context. While I understand that Red Sleeve is not a perfectly factual representation of historical events, as a viewer, I have been walking through the palace in the shadow of the court ladies, and one of the most enjoyable aspects of the drama is the glimpses it has given into this history. Imposing 2021 manners and values in the dialogue would distance me, as the viewer, from the sense of authenticity the drama has evoked.

This is how it’s done. The geniuses involved in this show have made me care so much about these characters half the time I watch the drama play out through the spaces between my fingers, ready to cover my eyes. You’d need to be made of stone to be unmoved by this drama.

Just finished episode 9 and I am struggling to deal with HOW HE LOOKS AT HER. I am in love with this couple. The rest of the world just falls away every second they share the screen together. Perfection.

Ikr, in the last minutes I was like “HOW COULD I SURVIVE NEXT WEEK IF THIS ONE DIDN’T GIVE ME ROMANCE”And…
Exactly!!! It’s the oxygen we need to survive another 5 days…

does anybody think this show might need more than just 16 episodes .. or maybe they won't really dive in much…
I was thinking the same thing. I think it’s also partly because I’ve gotten used to so much filler in saeguks and there’s so much going on in this one, and I’m actually interested in all of it. Given that we only have the 16 eps I’m really looking forward to seeing how the writers and director manage this going forward. I have so much respect for them, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.

Thankfully episode 8 ends with a hug because you’re going to need it. Very intense episode and I’m so excited to see what happens next!

It's so precious that the series is led by a female director. The camera angles, acting, editing, soundtrack...…
Yes totally agree. I’ve watched some of the BTS as I’m obsessed with this drama and she has a deft but sensitive hand on this drama, and you can feel her love for her craft. She’s an artist; I’ll be following her future works for sure!

I’ve watched the first 6 eps and there’s one problem with this drama. It makes the other dramas I’m watching pale in comparison. I’m obsessed with our intrepid heroine and our earnest and genuine male lead. The comedy moments are perfect respite and the acting is excellent. Loving this so far.

Loving the show and I’ve watched up to episode 18 but can we take a moment to admire the gorgeous costumes? Whoever was in charge of costumes and styling did a damn fine job IMHO

Wow the second episode was even better than the first. So far the acting, writing and OST are all excellent; loved the bath-house scene, to see two amazing older female actresses vibing off each other was a rare treat. Atmospheric and addictive stuff so far. Love the FL’s adorable side-kick the most.

Just finished episode 6 and so far this drama is great. I’ve cooled on saeguk’s recently as I’ve tried to watch one too many with a great cast but terrible writing. The writing on this is solid and the FL is shaping up to be one of my all-time favourite FLs.
