The novel has none of this... legitimately there hasn't been a single line taken from the novel that I have noticed. The novel had none of the addressing of the issues with government or any of the problems they have with Tawi. That's all new to the series.

I originally thought there were two supernatural beings... one the wizard who cursed her that is doing all the killing and another who is supposed to be her "soul mate" There is a theory after episode 8 that Fiat's older brother is Thawin, and they don't know it. Fiat is the one killing to stay alive and cursed Momay after she ran and Thawin has been waiting to find Momay all these years to complete the ritual. But, MooTod is fate's wildcard.
