I finally was able to watch this drama, it was recommended and it came to Netflix, Yay! I was so looking forward to the date when it would start. However I am seriously annoyed at times with the written script, some of the conversations between the Clown King and the Queen are meant to be romantic but made me cringe. Also the plot and decisions made by the characters are just so poorly thought out, I think the protagonists came across as quite stupid, similarly decisions made by the "good guys" were equally immature/naive. In comparison to the very clever plot in Stand by Me, this drama just does not have the same zing. I see no dynamic between the Clown King and the Queen. They are acting the part but no chemistry there. I fully understand that the writer attempted to show the diversity in characters between the real king and the clown king however to me the acting as the clown king is just a tad too hysterical. Made it to ep 12 but can't continue, its just not for me. I enjoyed the ML in Hotel De Luna but not in this drama. So disappointed.

I just watched the first episode and the actors, costumes, soundtrack, photography and direction are all superb. It was such an emotional first episode I wish the series well and hope it continues in this vein. Truly beautiful.

Another annoying FL with a dubbed baby voice (how is this cute for goodness sake). Supposed to be a medical student. Doctors generally speaking have an IQ in the top percentile of a population. Well this FL is sadly lacking in that department. Forget it you will end up chucking the remote at the TV if you watch this,

A hot guy with some great bonking is very addictive, even if you know you are going to get heartbroken. I do not see the relationship as toxic, goodness the ML was very honest that he was not interested in dating. The female lead walked into his arms with her eyes wide open. with the knowledge that he was a player. Frankly I like the character. perhaps in time he might be ready for a committed relationship then maybe not. Either way the Song Kang is hot hot hot.

I love this drama the realism is refreshing. The ML character must have had experience with an older woman, as he knows only too well how to seduce, please and give pleasure. Brings back memories the excitement, the feeling alive, the lust, the longing, the anxiety the heart break oh what a trip. I hope the drama keeps with the realistic vibe and does not fall prey to the goody goody two shoes who may object to the content. I say if you don't like it don't watch it. So much of our lives are edited by the minority. The flawed ML in this drama may very well have an interesting backstory that explains his need to control via seduction.

FINALLY a drama that calls it as it is. Heartbreak to follow, who has not met a Jae Eon and loved lusted and lived. The insecurity when you love a guy who you know is going to break your heart and probably sleep with your best friend. Bad boy but what a trip!!

Tried to give this drama a go BUT at ep 6 that is it dropping it. The FL character is just too annoying. supposed to be a clever doctor. Here we go again a FL yet again portrayed as an airhead twit. When are the writers / directors going to stop characterizing females as dumbo the elephant type characters, Its the 21st century FFS.

I agree the dialogue was just too boring. After all that longing when they came together finally I saw little of it. More like brother and sister actually. Last episode a waste of time.

Well I ended up jumping to ep28 (now on ep 34) and the FL who appeared to be a stuttering mouse was actually a selfish hard nosed woman totally engrossed in her job to the detriment of her child. Almost killed the baby due to overworking whilst pregnant then again due to being exhausted from working. Has become a very unlikable character to the point I hope in the drama the husband finds another partner, I really don't want to see them with a happy ever after. Granted the husband has been working long hours too however the FL mother actually created the reason the husband had to work the long hours with her pathetic reasoning that the wife should stay in her job and the husband give up his well paying job. Go figure he stupidly did so to appease her looney logic. Pretty much the FL, the 2 x mothers and the SFL are a royal pain in the A. If I were the husband I would take off faster than a speeding bullet,

This is pure misogynistic garbage. A FL that has a split personality (due to the way the director portrays her). One moment she is a genius at work sprouting blah blah next minute she is a stuttering mouse with no backbone. The 2 x mothers of the FL and ML are from hell and dictate / involve themselves in the leads lives. You really get to loathe them. Then once again we have a demented SFL who is rabid about the ML. This pile of rubbish is on YT with a title of Presidents Secret Wife. AVOID at all costs.

Ep 14 on YT has the subs for ep13 displayed makes watching very difficult hope they fix it soon.

I am on ep 7 and am really curious as to why the FL is so badly dressed, together with the ugly pulling of face she is coming across as really unattractive. Granted she is supposed to be a bit rough as she comes from a bandit background however cant her husband buy her some decent clothes? Compare her outfit with the husband he is dressed like a peacock and she is the peahen. Also the ML was quite OK in Dr Cutie however is acting in this drama is really bad. What's the deal I wonder? Don't feel at the stage I can go the distance with the show.

At ep14 the plot gets really annoying due to the stupidity of the FL. Actually both the SFL and FL are not too bright. The "keep the females stupid" is an ongoing trope in both C and K-dramas. I wonder at which point are we going to see a change, the female viewing audience outnumbers the men considerably, so why do we as females allow the mostly male dominated screenwriters and directors to consistently write this tripe. I will see the drama through as there are only 2 x episodes left.

What an amazing drama. the portrayal by Wang Kai of the Emperor is superb. Even though Zhao Zhen was a deeply flawed man due to his experiences as a young man you cannot but feel pity for the tragedies that befell him. Specifically the numerous deaths of his children. According to history he had 13 daughters and 3 sons, ( the actual drama does not relate that fact very well) many of his children died at an early age in particular his 3 sons. The other characters in this drama were also superbly portrayed, his daughter whom he loved yet sacrificed due to a guilty conscience, his Empress wife who reminded him of his non birth mother and the 2 wonderful eunuchs who were so loyal to the family. This drama will make you weep and bore you to tears at times, with the continuous discourses of the political elite. However if you take the time to listen to the hectoring the man received, you can understand why he appeared so weak in character at times. The poetry is beautiful and so are the songs. Exceptional exceptional is my view of this drama.

Now on ep 56 some questions have been answered however increasingly I want to strangle the Emperor. He was emasculated by his step mother so scared of a strong woman like the Empress, he pandered to Zhang for love but sacrificed his own daughter due to feelings of guilt because he did not have the balls to actually recognize his birth mother, during her life. Thus placing his daughter whom he claimed to love more than any other on a sacrificial plate and delivering her to the Li family. He got his love but denied his daughter the same experience with the man she loved. The portrayal of Zhou Zhen by Wang Kai is superb, I cannot but get totally absorbed by the tragedy of him and the pain created for the loved ones around him due to his own weaknesses and selfish acts. Its rare when you can be so emotionally involved with the characters. This is a gem of a drama that breaks my heart at times.

I am enjoying the historical aspects of this drama however feel so sad for the Empress and increasingly annoyed at the Emperor and his weaknesses. Specifically the Emperor has such a blind spot for the crazy stupid consort Zhang cant wait for her to expire, all I can say she must have been spectacular in the boudoir. Is Lady Dong the next one he has a fancy for? With such a superior Empress it is such a shame he is so timid with her and did not take action to bed her as is the case with his other women. It is obvious from the portrayal by Wang Kai that beneath his timidity with the Empress he appears to have affection for her - was it love. I suppose I shall find out later. Maggie Jiang as the Empress is so wonderful to watch and the child stars were super cute. My fav male cast (apart from Wang Kai who was so good in his role) are Liang Huai and offcourse MaoZe. Once more Zhao Zhen made a mistake with his treatment of MaoZe, whoes love for the Empress is also heartbreaking to see. Gosh these poor women some who lived their whole lives in a virginal state bound by such strict rules of the harem whilst the male in their lives roamed around impregnating the so called lucky ones. Neither wonder some eunuchs were able to have affairs with harem ladies. You can cut the family jewels but you cant cut feelings of love and desire.

On EP 10 and dropping the drama. It is frankly boring. Watched the Legend of Dugu and really enjoyed the passion felt by the actors. ML and FL are more like brother and sister they even sleep separately. What's the silly deal with that. How are they supposed to have the kids? So much for his undying statement that he will only love / marry the FL. ML is portrayed meh male. Director / writer for the drama have done a poor job to keep people interested in the project noway could I put up with 40 more episodes.
