Unpopular opinion: After watching most of her dramas and movies, I think Shin Hye Sun shines more in thrillers than romances. I mean she's still great in her romance dramas, but imo there's untapped potential there. And same goes for Lee Joon Hyuk, although he doesn't really do romance in the first place. They just have faces that look more cinematic when they're making an intense expression, if that makes sense 😂 In essence, I'm just happy they're both in a dark thriller together!
I think this could have been decent as a short Black Mirror episode, but the movie was just... boring and mostly didn't make much sense.
I just don't think Korean filmmakers are ready to tackle the science fiction genre. I have watched 3 korean movies featuring AI -- Jung_E, Wonderland and this movie, and they have all been major disappointments.
The latest episode is definitely interesting, but correct me if I'm wrong, weren't abortions only legalized in Korea a few years ago? Wikipedia says it was decriminalized in 2021. I might have missed the kid's age, but he looks to be 8-9 years old. Please excuse my ignorance, but were hospitals allowed to carry out abortions at the time?

Well that is true, but Moeun was very much threatening her and Yunsu appeared to be more scared than anything. I think the show could have executed their complex relationship better. They didn't even have much shared screen time.
It was great seeing Moeun kind of redeem herself by preventing Yunsu from becoming a murderer. But that ending scenes? That was really pushing it for me! Why were they pretending that the 2 characters had some great and profound relationship? They really didn't! Sorry, but if I were in Yunsu's shoes, I would be distancing myself from the traumatic nonsense I had to go through, much less traveling to Thailand to mourn the woman who contributed to my psychological torture! 😅 And bringing my daughter there as well? Absolutely NOT! Maybe I'm just heartless 😂
I have conflicted feelings about the "actually she's not a psychopath, she was a kind happy girl who turned dark because she wanted to get revenge" plot twist. I guess it kind of works... but it's just so unconvincing, or should I say unbelievable? Mo-eun could have been a very complex character, but here I just found the 180 degree personality change to be quite forced. I don't think they fleshed out her story enough. Anyone has thoughts on this?
The whole crew from the director, cinematographer to editors seem to be top-notch talent. The leads are great…
Stranger season 1 (which starred SHS and LJH) happened to be the first work of an office worker-turned-screenwriter, and it ended up getting the Baeksang for Best Screenplay. So I guess we can hope such a miracle happens here as well 😂
I actually think they will look great as a couple, but this is nice too. Also, SHS's role here sounds awfully similar to her character in her latest movie. I'm guessing they cast her after seeing her performance there lmao.

Every single event happens so that Gong Ryong can save the day. It feels so intentional that it's facepalm-inducing. Also, I REALLY wanted to slap him when he called Eve a murderer (what!) and went on a childish rant on how he shouldn't have saved her life. EXCUSE ME???!! First of all, none of yall were willing to tell her the truth so to her it IS just a bunch of cells. She was completely correct about that so stop with the bullshit. Also, are you going to pretend you're some hero carrying out a mission to save humanity?? And who was the person who set a freaking fire to the station that could have killed everyone?????

Its indeed unfortunate that GHJ is playing the same character type yet again. It doesn't translate very well to a commander role imo.
It felt like most of the characters were acting like clowns in this episode. We've got people chasing some lottery ticket, dudes drinking alcohol and making drunken confessions. Pretty much only Eve seems to be taking the job seriously. I also can't help thinking Gong Ryong shouldn't be the main character. He has no relatability (despite the long backstory) and it is extremely hard to like him so far. Worst thing is he seems to lack the ability to take things seriously, and so far, hasn't treated Eve with much respect. In fact I enjoyed watching the short scenes with his aunts far more than his foolish antics. I am so done with him.

Yeah, I know some koreans had been complaining of misogyny in the show which I didn't really notice much, but I definitely felt something off in this episode. Not sure if GR's "women are just patients to me" statement was entirely appropriate. Plus in the last scene, why does it look like Eve is rather scared of Kangsu although she is reprimanding him? This happens right after the former commander tells her to assert dominance. It just feels odd, as if her character is actually timid and weak under her tough exterior.
Hmm... I'm confused. I'm sure some of the jokes got lost in translation, but overall the comedy is not hitting for me and the tone just doesn't work for this genre. The first half of episode 2 seems like tomfoolery to me. Did I really just watch a commander delay her duties for 20 minutes for some fruit flies to finish mating..? And proceed to take her sweet time having a (quite frankly, pointless) conversation with the ML?
Yes, I can see the writers trying to discuss some philosophical ideas on the concept of life, but tbh I'm not sure if it's intriguing enough for me to put up with this. I'm putting this on hold halfway into ep 2.
