Title The Last Oath Spoiler
I laughed so hard at A-Lie's speech: "Why do you want to be a test subject for He Yao? But with ME you didn't…
Fire. LMAO. I think the comments section saved the show for me. The Zombie Apocalypse for emotional grade schoolers.

A Lie: “How come you’ll be a test subject for him but not for me? I mean…you wouldn’t even know him if I didn’t kidnap you?!! He took blood from you. I gave blood to you. ”

Lin Zai: Looks at A Lie with mild affection.

A Lie: “You really like me?!”

Audience: BRO!

I’m going to save the rest for the conclusion but…

1. We don’t brush off kidnapping.
2. If we brush past kidnapping and start a relationship with the kidnapper, you should probably try to work through those trust issues.
(And for those who say it is a toxic/abusive start to a relationship…yes…and we are now watching the drama unfold from two parties who acknowledged that starting point)
3. Don’t trust a desperate negligently scientist who left you for dead…twice.

(I previously tried to argue Lin Zai was a character smarter than that; now I think I was just hoping he was and have now gave up hope)

And for those who want to talk about Ah Leh being too much with the doctor; was Lin Zai expecting less than this for his defense when Ah Leh actually got him to the compound and the other researchers got a hold of him? I’d expect and be hoping for more since it is an organization.

I feel like I might be upset with this plot line because the whole drama has slowed to a crawl compared to the beginning.

Damn it…I wrote a lot anyway.

I will admit, I did like episode 9 more than the others. The characters charm and the fact that I waited until I could binge 5 episodes helped get me through most of it.

4. As a doctor, culturally makes more sense (I come from a cultural background where doctors have experimented on people so I know culturally I respond more skeptically than most) Culturally for me you approach a doctor carefully when they are developing cures because you don’t know what they aren’t showing. Again this is my bias being weighted on the character.

5. That wasn’t misunderstanding. That was not remembering clearly and not going back. And I hesitated to say cannibal family because I’m also watching something else and thought I might have been conflating. My main point was he was definitely more trusting of the cannibal family. Both the cannibal family and A Leh give him motivation to be more reserved and skeptical. It’s fine if they choose not to develop him that way.

As for the doctors actions prior to them meeting up again. There is no way you can repeatedly justify him trusting the doctor and him trusting A-Leh is not cutting from the same cloth of logic. Both provide reasons not to trust them.

As for him choosing A Leh. I’m a romantic but I clearly stated Lin Zai keeps allowing A Leh to cross boundaries and lines. I didn’t clearly state they were abusive but they are. I respected Lin Zai asking for space when he needed it and love that he is saying No when A Leh tries to push. Some people talk about what A Leh tells him about the doctor and personally I think scepticism toward A Leh is healthy.

My problem is the doctor. It feels stupid. But I think my culture informs my interpretation of that part. I agree your Doctor part is valid in a culture that trusts doctors not to abuse patients, fake results, or hide actual intentions. Not saying ALL doctors are bad. But skepticism in crisis or new frontier makes sense. Gross abuses against public trust in that frontier are generally for glory, relatives, and/or money as justification for the abusers.

If you circle back to A Leh’s abuse I don’t justify it. Lin Zai is the one trying to work past it.

Also trust after attempted cannibalism still feels weird. So even when they first came to camp I wanted them to stay skeptical.

I read some comments and it's funny how people find excuses for Lin Zai's behavior as if trusting Yao is reasonable…
Maybe for some this might be true. But I think for others it’s the back step in the level of trust for one and trust for another you have even less reason to trust. Monkey branching (going from one guy to another) in the middle of a modern drama is one thing. Doing it in the middle of a zombie apocalypse where one guy intentionally almost got you killed and the other you romantically trust (despite him kidnapping you etc) but are bitter about him getting your friend killed is a bit of a move toward character assassination. It makes Lin Zai an idiot if he really gets duped by the doctor.

1. Lin Zai was always smart enough to never confess about his resistance to Zombism. He had distrust for people and motivations from the beginning.

2. Lin Zai asks A Leh what if the organization tries/has to kill him for the cure. It shows awareness that not only could he have been previously kicked out because of his bite but experimented on to death because of his resistance.

3. Lin Zai accepts A Leh’s “I will protect you” in that moment and establishes a trust. Now, this is where I think people are comparing apples to oranges. Lin Zai + A Leh = romantic trust. Romantic trust allows for large leaps of faith and grand acts of stupidity. It can be rational but we largely accept it’s not.

4. Lin Zai is clearly grieving and questioning whether protection is enough of a motivator to keep going on with A Leh like this. A Leh has continuously pushed the line with Lin Zai and he just eventually says ok despite being uncomfortable (also indications of levels of growing trust). You can even see it when they finally sleep together. So Lin Zai is punishing A Leh (and somewhat himself) for not accepting his no.

5. Whatever brand of trust this is with the doctor, it does not seem consistent with his character. It’s compounded, if you think minimally the doctor left you for dead. He helped grandma. He can be appreciative. But it wasn’t that long ago he was fixing a boat for a family that tried to kill him. They seemed nice.

I’m hoping we’re slightly being duped as the audience and Lin Zai actually was trying to sus out the doctor. Just a few days ago he didn’t trust that people trying to find the cure might have motivation to kill him. But the guy who ACTUALLY almost did doesn’t?

That’s no Lin Zai that’s Darwinism’s treat.

I can understand distancing yourself because you’re grieving and angry. But the unguarded stupidity of trusting someone who minimally left you to die is so freaking dumb. I’m really disappointed in this drama now. We were expecting this plot point to happen later when they got to where A Leh said they were going. But because they run into someone capable of doing research earlier he’s no longer worried about someone killing him because of his blood?

This is changing the character to move the plot. I say that because Lin Zai was NEVER stupid enough to disclose his condition. He was always cautious and understood even a few days before that the people A Leh was bringing him to could kill him. They sleep together knowing that could be true but A Leh trying to protect him is enough. That level of trust wasn’t gained through Lin Zai being altruistic and wholeheartedly believing A Leh’s mission. Lin Zai kept consistently making micro leaps of faith because he was attracted to Lin Zai.

Grief and punishing A Leh is one thing. Stupidity is another. Finally, the plot has moved a LOT and stayed with this doctor for so long I forgot about this but…DID LIN ZAI just f-ing forget the last family that seemed kind, was using his distrust of A Leh, and tried to kill him. REALLY?

If there isn’t some type of twist where they both played into the anger to get him to display his motivations, I might be done. Cause A Leh can’t be the zombie slaying one man army and not be able to strategize against that doctor. The plot became too lazily written otherwise.

Yes, I just watched that scene again, how did they miss it..
Lin Zai didn’t. If you look at the scene again he looks directly at him before delivering his line. Like “I guess he’s not too close, I can deliver the line.” I dunno. I find it kinda hilarious. He did good considering that.

WHY did they have to make the ending scene so misleading like that. Everything in series did happen, the part…
I think everyone’s panic and disappointment is justified. Needing to explain the ending outside the drama means you didn’t put all the info there. Unless it was a translation issue. But it doesn’t sound like it.

Thank you for saying it was botched. The Director can have his intentions, the author can clarify, and the manwha can give context but the ending to the 10 episodes we saw…was botched. There is not enough there in the episode to not be confused.

Not to mention the fact that Eunho, in the last four episodes, never seemed to have a problem with him falling in love first. He was just insecure about his life.
