Amazing? Not really. But enjoyable? Absolutely.
This show's episodes all together last for about an hour and ten minutes, give or take a few seconds. And I'll be honest, the editing in this one was beyond messy. There are a lot of time jumps after which there's a short summary in the dialogue of what may or may not have happened off screen. Sometimes not even that. It's clearly a low budget drama, it being a web drama and micro series of 3 minutes per episode does not help in that regard.
So why did I rate it the way I did?
Well even for a low budget drama, the set, wardrobe, make up and visual effects weren't half bad. I've seen a lot worse. Also knowing this was a web drama, my expectations were low to begin with, and I've been pleasantly surprised by what I got. The two leads have great chemistry, even through the choppy editing and fast pace you can still see a bond forming between characters. The acting of the leads was great for what they had to work with. The supporting cast a little less so, but not bad enough to call it quits.
The story itself could perhaps have been better. Maybe that's also due to the 3 minutes per episode and the weird editing (yes i will keep mentioning this because it threw me off and if you don't prepare for it, it'll probably throw you off too. ) There just wasn't enough time to really give each character a good arc to grow and go in depth. The villain was a bit cartoony-ish at certain points. And though there seem to be some angsty moments (and some whump), i do consider this show to have a happy ending.
Despite that, i do enjoy the time travel trope and the soulmate trope. Which were kind of mashed into one in this show. It's listed as a Danmei, but we all know China's censorship doesn't give us anything more than longing stares. This one too does have some very nice tension charged moments, but no more than that. So whether it is a real BL or just a bromance is heavily up for debate.
I did very much enjoy this for what it was. (an absolute trainwreck. I mean... what's with the editing?)
Is it the best Web Drama out there? Absolutely not. But would I watch it again just for fun? Sure.
I suppose if you can get past the time skips, low budget and censorship you won't waste your time watching this.
