My theory is that it was Taiga who said it. [I might be biased 🥲] but I think his act of returning the 500k yen to Manami was a sign that he no longer viewed her as a potential client. Also, he looked really sad saying goodbye 😭

Ohh, I see! Thank you for taking the time to explain. I’m relatively new to how jdramas characterize the lead and supporting roles, I only saw the tip of looking at the SNS pages to know.
And I agree with you, the lines that Raul said in the preview is too much to bear. Why is thursday still so far away. 😭
Here’s a fun fact about the name of this drama.. more like a heartbreaking fact:On the poster and opening of…
Omg, what a wonderful analysis! I’ve always looked forward to the improving handwriting in every episode. I wonder if the last episode would show him being able to write the kanji for school? (Although it’s a far fetched idea, given that the title itself doesn’t include it).
I agree with you, the series is so well thought of. It’s been a while since I’ve seen fleshed out characters, and this series is doing it so well. Which kind of makes me sad that a lot of people (who are interested in the storyline) are having second doubts because of the age gap. They’re missing out on this gem.
The EP 5 preview made me so excited 😭 they’re starting to transition to the “forbidden love” aspect of the story.
Also, just to echo previous comments, isn’t Raul considered to be the main lead? It does get confusing sometimes but from the SNS accounts, their names were presented like “Kimura Fumino x Raul” which sometimes means that they’re both leads. In contrast to Meoto Biyori, wherein Honda Kyoya was labeled a main lead here in MDL although Takimasa is a supporting character (in the SNS accounts, it was presented as “Starring Yoshine Kyoko, Co-starring Honda Kyoya.)
I actually like the route they took with the drama: compared to the manga and the movies (where Chihaya, Arata, and Taichi were all substantially knowledgeable of karuta and are simply aiming to be the best), the main characters were all relatively new to karuta.
Karuta, in this series, is primarily used to move the development of the main characters. For Meguru, karuta became a way for her to live her youth, and not restrict herself to be so focused about her future as she has always done. For Kanade, karuta became a way for her to reconcile with her not fully realizing her ambitions, and making peace with her current path. For Fuki, karuta became a way for him to realize that he does not need to stay at a path that was paved for him by others, and that he can decide for his own life.
Honestly surprised at the direction they took, and I'm looking forward to more eps!
As far as I know there are no subs yet, but I watch it through TVer (using a VPN) and I turned on the Google Translate tab so that it could translate the Japanese captions to English 😅 since it’s machine generated it’s a bit weird, but watching a lot of jdramas made it more comprehensible
Watched the drama purely out of curiosity because the premise intrigued me (In general I avoid doramas with angst, so watching this is new to me).
Admittedly, the series started quite strong with its first ep. This is my first time seeing Raul act (I wasn’t very familiar with him prior to watching), and I can see that he has a good grasp of his character. He shows the right amount of charm while also letting the viewers see enough of his character’s inner turmoil. Kimura Fumino, on the other hand, is good as always. I hope that they stay in the right track!
This is such a gem 😭 finished all episodes, and it really is such a warm drama. It’s the first time I’ve felt such loneliness after the end of a show because I no longer have anything to look forward to every Thursday 😭. This deserves more popularity internationally!
The video on Meoto Biyori’s SNS pages, where he was given a gift for his birthday ☺️ “something” peeked through and was noticed by fans, hence being a possible spoiler 😂
This would have been such a really good movie (very comforting, warm, and lighthearted) if it weren’t for the blatant cheating that happens throughout the film. Although it was stated that Ako married out of desperation, she was still married after all and the husband seems to be a good man. I still don’t get how it was ignored as Toshi and Ako are flirting out in the open. 😭
Not really 😭 the ML never really interacted with women prior to their marriage because he was a workaholic. [spoiler] they haven’t done the deed six months into their marriage (tho now they did 😂), and the FL’s sisters started pitying him for being a saint. 😂
I was enjoying this, but the subs are pretty bad. My daughter that speaks some Japanese, said that it looks like…
There’s a fan subber for this drama! Oshiroen is their name on X, and they have guidelines on how to access the subbed eps but a discord account is needed. Their subs are really good ❣️
We still have 4 eps left, but it’s already becoming my favorite romcom drama of all time (and I’ve watched a LOT of Asian drama romcoms, I’m just not active in MDL). FINALLY ROMCOM IS BEING DONE RIGHT WITHOUT ALL THE UNNECESSARY PLOT TWISTS OR OVERLY CHEEESY AND CRINGEY LINES 😭
I hope it keeps up its pace. It’s the first time (in a long time) that I’ve felt so strongly about a show. 😂
