I think one of the best part of this kdrama was what you mentioned, they didn't make a comical thing about her…
Exactly. He was in love with both the male and the female. Nothing changed that. How you feel about someone has no gender. The love story is quite mature, making most people frustrated with the romance - it has no flash, just quiet and enduring.
As I said before, the ML carried the drama. Without him, this drama would have been an utter flop. That's some charisma. Unfortunately, the FL never warmed up to the character. But again, the whole drama was all about the male character (the king) and his revenge (or justice) rather than the female character's, and the ML delivered that admirably at every turn. I always think Kdramas should end at 10 or 12 episodes. 16, in most cases, is such a drag. For a change, this drama got enough meat(haha) to develop four more episodes. And the cross-dressing, gender-bender trope did not become a total comical absurdity instead nicely woven into the whole story. In the end, the gender became insignificant. Must say, I am still bowled over by what ML does with his eyes - visibly shifting from one emotion to another with a simple blink - stunning.
Rather draggy and even boring sometimes. The dialogues lack meaning and depth. This should have been a 10-episode drama, as the whole plot line was revealed by the 4th episode. Acting is nothing much to talk about, just average. This could have been a promising storyline if the script writer made an effort to develop the plot properly. And why is the FL character made out to be rather silly and air-headed?
Truly a fitting ending to a wonderful drama. No cheezy declarations but nicely crafted love and commitment. The cast and storytelling never disappointed, with a seriously funny FL dominating the whole story and utterly smitten ML playing second fiddle adorably.
well said and the gender swap is getting mooore riddiculous w the more physical contact !
Not to mention that these gender bender tropes are giving bad rep to gender fluidity. Frankly I am not paying a lot of attention to it instead watching the character building. So far positive.
Great plot twists so far. The ML carries the drama. The emotions he portrays with his eyelids alone are worth a watch. The FL might not be the best, but the character requires timidity, bravado, and a strategic brain, which she delivers. The gender swap is clearly ridiculous but works within the story (it is still ridiculous, though).
So what! Is that a drama we are supposed to watch? It is her private life. What she does in her private life is her business. People who think they own artists are plain sick.
How can the characterisations be both so exaggerated but so flat at the same time? Ji Hyuk is unrealistically…
Totally. I was waiting for the plot to develop, but bad storytelling always ruins a somewhat promising plot. And such dull acting. Come to think of it, with such a bad script, not a lot one can do. Yes, the secondary FL character has some depth. Hype hardly delivers.
Good plot. So far, the secondary FL is better than the main FL, portraying the petulant, narcissistic characteristics admirably. I guess this character has more depth than the main FL, who is only there to plot the revenge. The secondary ML is ahh ... so worthy of a bitchslap and maybe overacting to portray the totally unpleasant character.
Very badly written story. Could have been good storytelling with that interesting premise, but seriously blotched. Why did the FL go from a strong firefighter/bodyguard to a crying wreck who can't even lift a finger to protect herself?
One of the best period dramas. The cast is outstanding - especially the ML. The story/dialogues are well crafted and beautiful. After the Red Sleeve and Under the Queen's Umbrella, this wins the cup. Highly recommended.
