Gave it a try

I like historical k dramas but I have noticed I like more modern story cdramas. I watch a lot of slow vibes one. Right before this now at her THE BEST THING, and liked it. This one I wanted intensity but it never really delivered with romance or political intrigue. The story line was fine for first half, then things got dragged out for not much reason then at the end just loosely tied. The thing that really started annoying me was there are plenty of villains but they didn’t put them one by one but dragged out the younger brother as villain eventhough he should have died. They basically then massacred the town of Linan to give the FL a revenge plot but the revenge plot never really closed off, she got distracted. It was like everything was picked up but it all fizzled, even the romance. The romance was strong but the ML had not much lines and it was so not like this character of a general. I’m not sure if it was written thoughtfully because the casting was good with what we got. The female lead also has unusually high heroine story line, and also she basically could have died once but ofcourse she didn’t. She was also sworn enemy of many but they never came after her full force. The same villains didn’t like ML MARQUIS for his position and strength but they stopped going after him, because politics takes over the last third then he has to insert himself on the court side. I think it’s ok to make the main characters have weakness and not too perfect and that’s what was so not right in second half as FL basically becomes a military hero and overshadows the ML MARQUIS and the writer just gives up on the ML. The last episode was so bad and annoying. We got random thought about oh what if that one big incident which this story is about never happened. Don’t really care because it did happen and what they Iive with good and bad now is what’s more interesting . This is probably one of the hyped dramas that didn’t do it for me and I was usually super lax about that. I will say I am not even sure the controversies about “pretty general” is the problem with this show. I think ZLH was same for me here and the best thing because the characters were similar, ad I haven’t watched him in anything else.

Short dramas are honestly satisfying

The 10 minutes episodes are so well done. I usually have watched these in large one video but having it be episode is nice and even while it’s still coming out. The quality of this production is great. I keep on thinking how many scenes have they done in this bus and the story actually kinda tells you. Sometimes short drama don’t like to explain the characters actions and just go go go, but this one actually does take its time. The time loop plot means that it does get repetitive but it’s done tastefully. It’s not a massive mystery but it’s kinda predictable but actors are too knotch. Also they make alot of FLs ballerinas in short dramas and their costume and same shot of dance is cringy or gets cringy especially when they use that as plot device but good news, the actress I think went to school for dance so she’s legit. I also have liked her scripts in other dramas so when I picked this kind of knew what they quality would be for this. And I cannot appreciate more the MLs hair because damn! Also alot of characters or fashion is the 3 or 4 “slutty bangs” for men’s hair and I am so over every having the same damn hairstyle.

Never trusting reviews again

People have given this 10, how?
- why did they think the FL should be JANE all of a sudden. No this wasn’t the bad subtitle translation on Viki. I was already annoyed she was JENNY after no way she introduced herself as Jenny but the villain did so ok
- bad C grade actors like why did they get so much air time. A lot of that would be explained in one line dialogues by main leads
- the romance was whatever after they were together. The awkwardness and stoic ness in ML went away and idk he was first at love sight is all I understood.
- the FL acting was probably decent atleast the most consistent thing here
- so many plot holes but whatever

Get past episode 1 and you can't miss out on this

I think the first episode you have to let yourself kind of get used to these characterization. What the usual setup might make you expect is something more serious but this one is just fun, cute, a little cringe, and a lot pretty. I as giggling alot through out the show. The romance is cute and by the end it made me feel like it was more inspired by fairy tales than modern tv shows, but its obviously delivered with the modern twists. The dram is kind of light, not much happens but yu also don't get bored. Even though I am new to BLs, I have watched a few and alot of story feels not evened out in some of them I have watched, where its intense at first then its not, but this one feels mellow throughout. Its only 10 episodes so nothing gets dragged out. Its kind of slice of life, but a romance.

As always good first half

I don’t watch this genre very much so when I first started I liked the pace unlike other mystery romance it was fast to set it up. I think that’s kind of the only good thing here for the plot. The plots kind of predictable even the mystery is not that hard to figure out. Actually around episode 9 it really started just being too easy. There is a whole big character who is setup as a mystery man but his whole plot gets resolved by episode 10. So it almost treats it like per episode at that point something must be resolved. Then it does that for a bit but then goes to another sub plot. It just felt disjointed in that way where it just wasn’t setup cohesively over the show.
The romance is very mild and then they actually get really annoying. I didn’t mind the first half of it cause a lot of the lying was part of the character building then it kind of just got repetitive and also confusing. It looks like they are fine but the next scene I felt like something was missed by me. On that note, the confusion also starts happening around last third of the show around the larger plot. I am not sure if the translation plays a part in it but like why was the major villain just a switch of a button, his dad we thought dies but he’s not dead. I think they wanted to play the pace fast again but kinda lost it.

Refreshing to watch simple times

So, if you watch this after the new shows, you will realize this show is not that old but just feels like it was made in different times. For this genre of slow romance, just romance, the plot does its thing, but the "time in life" setup of hair, makeup, set, cast all is what feels right about this. There makeup was "normal". They are not glowing, thye are tired college students and have skin texture and repeat of their wardrobe. It's definitely polished for college experience can be like, but thats not this genre's job.
The acting probbably mostly good, sometimes flat, but I its not overexagerrating. The usual quirks exist where people move away from confusing and hard emotions very fast by the next scene. Characters are super dynamic but its a easy watch. It's not a page turner, which is what I needed. It has "page turner" small moments, but you can pace it. TLDR - No villains, chill romance, some annoying characters, happy ending.

Rewatch value is up there

I didn’t realize how funny this show was in parts in the first watch. It does move fast which is nice but there is so much they packed in first like 5 episodes that by episode 8 you’re like where else are we going.

Also the SML deserves his own shoutout. It’s a character done so well and his smile is so cute. He is an unconventional beauty. Both the love stories are setup well without getting sour.

Steady paced and cohesive story that does this genre justice

I think, first things first, the actors make this look so organic and real. The dynamic of characters make sense and the viewer is left with trying to understand the character more than trying to fill loop holes or catch the next one. For CDramas I think office romance is kind of my goto (its not for KDramas lol). So, this hit the spot in terms of the story, acting, music and tons of variety in the scenes. There wasn't the woman falling and being caugh 5 times in a row IFKYK. I think as a western viewer there are definitely tropes of the characters that are hard to understand. I actually like this as a takeaway because I would rather question and engage with the show then just consume. So, what do I mean? I think the parts thats frustating is understanding the charcter's motivation. The show does good job of showing main characters but maybe their relationships to their family, and upbringing, atleast things the two main characters think they don't align on are not fully clear. Maybe thats just explained so much in other shows that this show didn't feel like they needed to spend time doing alot of that. I think this is more true for the FL's intention than the ML. She is ambitious and independent, but alot of her motivation is promotion and earning a name for herself. When she decides to move back to her parents it almost feels sudden, and I think its confusing if she genuinely did want that or was purely running away. Again, its nuanced in its portrayal so maybe that what should appreciated that she lives imperfectly and tries to do her best. So yeah, I don't think its like other dramas in this genre especially portraying female leads choices. In terms of the ML, its a bit hard to understand his drawbacks. He is hot and cold, like a bit too much. I think the main goal with him is that you are supposed to see his progress, but sometimes its also hard because as a viewer you are like he kinda stays the same hot head mean dude for a while, but changes once they get back like the second time for a bit and becomes more patient,... but it doesn't last. I definitely think this show made me question, should they even be together? At some point, I was like ok if they don't end up together thats fine I wouldn't mind because they tried and tried alot.

SO yeah, the realism of it makes sense (apart from no one finding out they were dating for so long), romance setup is great that viewers don't have to feel like they are watching two different shows before they get together and after, it stays in focus, but it definitely makes you question the characters.
