If you can get through the noncon fetish....
This series was surprisingly cute. I'd already seen BossNoeul in Boy Next World and I was curious about FortPeat so I decided to give this one a try. The series is broken up into two different stories, eps 1-7 are for BossNouel/PayuRain and eps 8-13 are for FortPeat/PrapaiSky and there's a 14th special episode which features all of them.
PayuRain eps: As much I loathe the noncon fetish (I know some people like it, but it's defs not for me), once the story moved past that the relationship was actually really cute. I liked that Payu and Rain set clear boundaries early on in their relationship to help manage their love, school, and work lives. There wasn't any major conflicts in their story either which I personally liked, the plot conflict was them trying to understand each other and build a relationship. I'm not a fan of overly convoluted storylines so the straightforwardness of the story appealed to me. Another thing I liked (strangely enough for me) were the sex scenes. I will fully admit that I often skip sex scenes. Even if a couple has good chemistry, if the director would rather film the scene like its some kind of fantasy than it's not for me; I hate it when there's over the top music, when the camera bounces around to different body parts, and the scene has weird edits (I'm looking at you DMD). This thankfully was nothing like that, it was very straightforward, very realistic, normal sex. I also liked that Rain was an active participant during the scenes. Usually childish uke are treated like dolls and act very shy during intimate scenes so it was refreshing to see Rain act like a regular guy wanting to have sex.
As an aside, the background characters in this story were wilding istg. There was literally a character who randomly started licking a pen. Weirdest thing I ever saw.
PrapaiSky eps: Again, noncon fetish alert, but again very short lived (I seriously don't understand the appeal). I definitely enjoyed this couple much more than PayuRain. Sky is more mature and reserved than Rain, but still very sweet and friendly. A very cute combo imo so I immediately took a liking to this character. The main conflict in this story was Sky trying to overcome his emotional trauma and open up to Prapai. The trauma backstory was very heavy which involved verbal and physical abuse and sa. As much as I liked the characters I'm a bit back and forth on the story line. On one hand I liked that they portrayed Sky's trauma realistically ie, once he and Prapai started going steady the trauma didn't magically go away. Sky still had anxiety, still had nightmares, still had trust issues. Real trauma takes time to heal and getting a boyfriend isn't a magic solution and I'm glad that they showed that here. What I didn't like though was the way it was all dumped out. Admittedly they only had 6 episodes, there wasn't much room for the writers to ease into the topic, but I still feel like it could have been handled better than it was. Also, to be completely honest, I didn't like Peat's crying scenes. I get that crying is a very difficult skill for actors to learn so I didn't let it affect my rating, but seriously all of Peat's crying scenes were not great and he had a lot of them. Fort only had a couple crying scenes and they were way better. It didn't detract from the story though and like I said I enjoyed these characters a lot. The relationship building between Prapai and Sky was super cute.
I think my biggest critique for this series was the ending. It was very abrupt. I was actually very confused and thought that the 14th ep was to continue the storyline only to start watching it and realize that it was just a side story and completely unrelated. Not that the series ends on a cliffhanger, but it still felt not fully finished.
General info for anyone wanting to know:
• Are the stories overlapping? Yes. I would recommend watching the whole show in its entirety rather than skip to just the story you want to watch. All four characters pop in and out of each other's stories enough that I think it would be confusing if you just watched one story or watched them out of order.
• Is the series spicy/nsfw? Yes. But it's very well done imo. The scenes were a good balance between realism and censorship. We don't see any nudity from the waist down, the scenes last a normal duration, and we see the characters using condoms.
• Is there violence? Yes! Both stories have violence which involved fighting that leads to blood shed, kidnapping, physical and emotional abuse, and sa. (If you're someone easily trigged than I'd recommend giving this series a pass.)
• Is the special episode worth watching? Sure. If you liked the series than watch the special as well. It's not relevant to the main plot, it's just a side story/beach episode that's mostly for spice. We also get to see sassy Sky/Peat though which I admit had me grinning like an idiot. It was a fun watch.
