I mean, you did literally say "maybe you just don't like the age gap between the fl and ml" in your original comment and then started talking about their genders, which is why I answered like that. You're right though that a lot of people are more harsh when the fl is the older one, and I saw that a bunch in the comments while it was airing. And I do agree that having characters who fall in love gradually the way they did can be fantastic, and sometimes preferable if it makes more sense for the characters. From an objective standpoint the writing made sense, I just don't think that the actors pulled it off, which is a shame because they're both so good otherwise. And they're both capable of having amazing chemistry with their costars, I just personally don't think they had it with each other. I've never seen the other drama so I don't really know what a comparison between them would look like.

Lmao, those reasons you mentioned are what made me watch the drama in the first place. As an older-ish woman myself, I always get excited when I see women above a certain age being given roles like these. The age gap absolutely did not bother me between them because of their gender. If anything, the age gap between Wu Fei and Tao Jun Hui bothered me a lot more because she didn't seem very mature. Both Xu Kai and Yang Mi nailed their characters individually, I just didn't think their chemistry was there. It has nothing to do with gender bias for me, so you should probably stop projecting other people's bias onto random commenters.
Unfortunately I found this drama very slow paced and I only made it to the end by skipping scenes within episodes. The…

The drama is good, until you realize that basically every episode/case is just about violence towards women. As a woman who has been through that kind of stuff, it was just exhausting seeing it in practically every episode. They could have easily figured out different crimes to use in at least a few of the episodes, but nope. Just a whole lot of violence/SA. 🙄
Right. Yang Mi and Xu Kai barely had any screen time together, especially in the last 10-15 episodes. How is the…
Yeah, it was such a baffling decision. Like... This is a drama where the leads are mature and respectful toward each other, so i have no idea why they made the other two couples SO toxic and then give them so much screen time when that's obviously not the kind of relationship people watching the drama are interested in.
Oh man, this was not worth waiting over a year for. I got to episode 30 and was starting to get bored but figured I'd come here to see if it gets better but apparently not. Up to now I've loved the relationship between Yang Hua and Qin Shi, and the mutual respect they have for each other despite how different they are from typical gender norms, but they just don't seem to have any chemistry imo. Plus there's SUCH a heavy focus on the law stuff that i just do not care about. It's kinda sad because i can see the potential in this drama, but it just... Doesn't really work. The side characters are a HUGE part of that too. I literally cannot stand any of them except for Li Dai.
It has given me the urge to rewatch Begin Again, so at least there's that i guess lol.
