I won't tell you exactly what happens in the end but I am putting a spoiler warning in case this is more information than others may have wanted. I highly suggest you read the book because it was AMAZING and INCREDIBLE and totally worth your time!! Please, PLEASE read the book because it deserves to be read.. but for those who are curious about the differences (I still haven't seen the movie actually), here is the general idea about how the book ended...

SPOILER WARNING AHEAD:
So, I wouldn't exactly say the book had an open ending because the results of the climax of the story did have an impact on the characters, and there were... less-than-positive consequences for their actions which was nicely wrapped up for the completion of the climax... however, there was no definitive closure for the characters or the readers. Even the Epilogue was simply a letter from Zheng Yi (the police officer) to Chen Nian basically saying he missed her and looks forward to both Bai Ye and Chen Nian having a bright future. I wouldn't say it was an open ending but I'm sure that most people would say yes, It was open-ended. I REALLY HOPE YOU READ THE NOVEL IT'S AMAZING OMG!!1 <3
omg the male lead character is SO ABUSIVE I couldn't even finish the film. Even if they try to redeem him, it's just painful to watch and not worth it. Too much emotional abusive. Even children know better..
OMG THIS MOVIE IS SO CUTE EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT!!! Don't forget to watch the TWO (2) extra scenes after the credits!! Although the second one doesn't appear to be subtitled anywhere.. still cute AF!
