I think Goong was the 2nd or 3rd Kdrama I watched, and I've watched it many times since (usually in October for some reason). I loved the original cast--including their very weird styling choices. The thing about a remake is whether the producer, director and writer understand what made the original Goong so iconic--the job would be to keep those parts, but still make the remake it's own thing.
If it has Jeremy Tsui, I guess I have to watch it [prays to drama god that producers let him voice his own character, and that the writers do him better than the writers did in "Autumn Ballad'"].
The translations so far are really a struggle, which is really too bad, as this appears to be another one of those dramas that Japan does so well. Two people who are strangers to each other? Check. One of them proposes to have sex with the other for revenge [Perfect Crime] or curiosity [Kakafuka] or to end their virginity [Rinko San Wants to Try] or who knows wtf [Color of Romance]. See?
I've seen countless dramas but this one must be one of the worse and the most illogical (although I'm watching…
I'd mark this as a spoiler, but thank you for writing this. In a show where the plot/story matters a lot (because it's not a rom com, or whatever) illogical plot holes and silly pauses drive me nuts. You saved me at least 17 hours, and vented frustrations so I won't have to.
Was looking forward to this after watching the impressive episode 1 opening. But with comments warning it’s…
Reconsider?
I've just finished my 3rd or 4th rewatch of this drama, and when I finish it, I look forward to a few months passing, so I can watch it again. It's a show I've loved every single time I've watched it. It was one of the best things to come out of 2022.
This has the actor from Maid's Revenge, so . . . yes, yes, I'll be watching. Which I probably would anyhow, seeing as it's about revenge, scumbags, and green tea bitches.
Of the hundreds of dramas I've seen across many cultures: S. Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Pakistan, Turkey--the Jellypo scene in episode one is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Even if you can't work up any love for another 15 episodes, watch the first half of episode one just for that scene.
There are at least a dozen dramas on your list that aren't from 2022, and a few are even from 2016. Check especially page 3 of this list. Lots of dramas on this page are not 2022.
It isn't perfect, but I strongly recommend you give "Extraordinary Attorney" another shot. I watched this show after a really extended Kdrama drought,, and I'd watch a Kdrama every day if I could find others as good as this one. I've also watched "Red Sleeve" numerous times. If I'm short of time or just in a mood, I watch episodes 1, 2, 15 & 16 of this drama, and it's very satisfying.
Gosh. Some parts of this have been unbearably stupid, with bonus! dig at US Civil Aeronautics. If you ignore that, it's not a bad show. depending on your appetites for sexism and controlling mothers. And noble idiocy. There's a noble idiocy arc that lasts for several episodes. So there's some of that, too. Also, love triangle. And hopelessly infatuated 2nd (or 3rd, depending on how you're counting) FL. And 2nd male lead. It's a multi-dimensional love triangle.
I like Seven Tan in everything I've seen her in, but she does tend to play the same plucky, upbeat, bright character in all her dramas, and she has about the same kind of chemistry with all her co-stars. I'm coming to the conclusion that if you've seen one of her dramas, you've seen them all.
It may not be up to her, but I hope she can choose some parts that let her stretch outside her usual characterizations, assuming she's interested in becoming a better actor.
Hope this gets subbed properly.
