Season 1 leaves you wanting more. Season 2 makes you regret asking for it.
Season 3... how do I even begin to review this?
First of all, don’t worry — I won’t go into spoilers. If for any reason I do mention something spoiler-y, I’ll make sure to give a warning.
So, here’s the deal.
When I don’t like how a series ends, I try to remind myself that it’s partly my own fault — that the show suffered under the weight of my expectations. And I know this series is full of plot holes, unrealistic situations, contrived character development, laughable explanations, and a whole load of “shock the viewer” moments. It feels overly commercial at times.
Do I sometimes wish for an ending wrapped in a pretty pink ribbon? Yes.
Do I know better by now? Also yes.
Should I just go watch a Disney movie next time? Probably.
If you enjoy a story- and character-driven narrative with incredible acting, you’ll love it.If you require an explosion every minute to stay entertained — you’ll love it too.If you’re looking for something darker, something that leaves a knot in your stomach and makes you walk away questioning the nature of humanity — this might be for you.
However, I did feel that the overall story execution was underwhelming — especially the ending. Not as bad as Season 2, but... yeah.
My Feelings, in %:
100%: Yup, the ending sucked. I didn’t like it. At one point, I thought we were heading for a Westworld-style twist — and, well… they went for it.
90%: There was no way this series was going to end in a way that satisfied me. Good and evil, greed and justice, loss and gain — they exist side by side and can’t be cleanly separated. I’m sorry. I, too, want to live in a fairy tale where the hero wins and the villain disappears forever.
60%: Every 30 minutes: “Maybe I should reread 1984. Or stare at a wall. That might be better.
30%: I’m still a fan... but honestly, it could’ve ended with Season 1.
10%: Do we need a spin-off? Or is this just turning into a money-making machine recycling the same story?
cough yes cough
Anyway, I’m off to emotionally recover... or rewatch Season 1. Whichever comes first.
That’s all I can say.
