Oh boy...this was not good at all. It was infuriatingly bad.To those who may be here for Wang Haoxuan or who see…
God yesss. I'm ngl I like the Yi City trio more than the main couple in The Untamed lmao. And Xue Yang is my favourite, period. WHX really did wonders with that character.
I heard WHX was barely in Immortal Samsara? Is that not true? Is it worth watching for him? I love xianxia so I might watch it anyway but I'll watch it faster if he is in it a decent amount!
I'm excited for all those upcoming roles especially the main ones. I just hope they're not all mini dramas lol. Stick to the Script was amazing but it was so short. I wanted more 😢
But yes, I hope he gets to play another adorable delinquent, another cute and charming villain for sure. I also hope to see him reunited with Song Jiyang too. They have such amazing chemistry both in character and as themselves. Such cute dorks.
Just got done binging it all. I can see why there are complaints of cringe humor however it's really only at the beginning and settles down a bit, at least imo. They do serious moments very well too.
I have to give massive kudos to the actors too. It must not have been easy to act like they had to and keep a straight face.
And I'll admit my bias here as I'm a huge fan of his but Wang Haoxuan deserves a special shout out. This role required him to display a wide range of traits and often had him acting in ways that a lot of men would probably be uncomfortable with. He was absolutely hilarious.
It's pretty presumptious to feel "horrible for the actress" because of a role she willingly took. I bring this…
No worries. I can be long winded too. That and I owe you an apology. I just reread what I said and realized how rude it sounded. That wasn't my intention at all. I guess my bad mood due to how bad Dance of the Phoenix was bled out. I'm very sorry.
I also agree with what you've said. I just thought you were potentially infantilizing her although not necessarily on purpose, but your explanations got it across that, that definitely wasn't the case.
You're also not gonna get pushback from me about your comparison between western and Asian actors. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by the "expliciteness" part but I just find Korean, Japanese, and Chinese actors to be more skilled than a lot of western actors are so I can't really judge anyone else for having similar opinions.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it and again, sorry for my previous tone.
I recently discovered Wang Haoxuan through The Untamed and am planning on watching as much of his work as I can, at least that's worth it, so I gotta ask:
Is this drama worth watching primarily for him or is he a scant presence?
Asking as I just finished Dance of the Phoenix for him too and imo he was barely in it for the first 20 or so eps. Not exactly something I'd like to repeat.
I don't usually leave comments, but the amount of assault in this, I couldn't just leave be. I cringed and couldn't…
It's pretty presumptious to feel "horrible for the actress" because of a role she willingly took.
I bring this up because in Game of Thrones, there's a scene where a girl named Sansa gets assaulted. And guess what? Her actress went on record saying how much fun she had filming that scene. It was actually the actor involved that was uncomfortable and really didn't like it.
So for all you know, in this drama, the actress could have been just fine with the scenes, which would make sense since I'm guessing she wasn't forced into taking the role.
The ending was just pointless which made the whole thing pointless imo....no idea where it was going...I still…
I somehow managed to get to ep20 and then I just skipped to all the Yu Mingye parts. It was still a struggle to watch considering how the other characters and the show itself treated him like crap 😢
After seeing all these negative reviews and opinions I have but one question: as someone who REALLY liked Wang…
Oh boy...this was not good at all. It was infuriatingly bad.
To those who may be here for Wang Haoxuan or who see the comments saying Yu Mingye is the only character worth watching this for, don't be like me and naively think that means his role was substantial. He was barely in it for the first 20ish episodes.
And while it's true he's a good character, he's also one that gives and gives and gives but doesn't get anything back so it's really sad and frustrating to watch him be so good and dedicated then watch him get all but spat on. It's not just the other characters that are like that, but also imo the drama itself underutilized him and didn't respect his character like it should have.
Lastly about this man, Mingye has WAY more chemistry with the FL than her other suitor and was just better all around but he never has a chance even though he does so much for her so the second lead syndrome might hit you with a vengeance. It did me. I practically frothed at the mouth.
I'll also mention that the villains weren't very good either. There were multiple ones that basically had the same traits and these ones were all the kind of people you could actually meet irl. Basically, multiple villains are the "let's brutally tear down other girls" type of women but also with schemes and manipulation. They kind of reminded me of how Umbridge is more hated than Voldemort just because lots of people have had bad and cruel teachers. There were just too many of these types of villains though and not much else.
But I digress.
Continuing on, none of the villains are fun or witty or funny or charming in any way, so in my experience anyway I just sat there getting more and more angry and annoyed because there was not a single likeable villain to break the tension up, lighten the mood, make things more exciting, et cetera. What we get was largely just anger inducing and boring.
Personally, if I could go back, I wouldn't have bothered trying to watch it properly. I would have just skipped to all the Mingye scenes lol
I've only seen him in The Untamed so far but he did such an amazing job in that role.Plus he may be the most gorgeous…
I'm watching Dance of the Phoenix now and omg Yu Mingye is too precious.
I've seen people accuse Wang Haoxuan of over-acting and now I'm even more confused after seeing him as Mingye. Do these people just see how extra Xue Yang was and thought it was over-acting as opposed to who the character was or? 🤔
Anyway, this man has overtaken my prior favourite actor entirely. I can't get enough watching him so colour me excited that I still have so much to get through!
After seeing all these negative reviews and opinions I have but one question: as someone who REALLY liked Wang Haoxuan in The Untamed, is this worth watching just for him? I'm planning on watching as much of his work as possible.
Edit: I decided to watch it. Yu Mingye is worth it lol

He's not only super talented enough to be the lead in general but he looks so good in period clothing too. (Then again when doesn't he look good?)
But mostly I just love Xianxia and wanna see more while also seeing more of him.and his amazing eye acting lol
I have to give massive kudos to the actors too. It must not have been easy to act like they had to and keep a straight face.

Nobody helped him first after the emergency was over. The awake people helped FW and the prince first who were just unconscious for a brief time.
Then those two laid around on the ground for a while and had a legitimate moment together.
While YMY is still not being helped with the whole MISSING ARM THING.
Only once they're done with their stupid moment full of bad chemistry did they turn to YMY and supposedly care.
I have no words for how bad that was...

Plus he may be the most gorgeous man I've ever seen in my life 😍
More than that though I finally figured out my faves. Xue Yang and Wen Ning ♡
