The only Drama that literally made me cry like a little girl
This is the best heartbreaking drama I have ever seen, but it's an inspiration too.
Which is why, its my favourite heartbreaking Drama of all time!
One Liter of Tears stands as one of the most profoundly moving Japanese dramas ever created. Without relying on twists or melodrama, it delivers a raw, human story that reaches straight into the heart and refuses to let go. This is a drama that changes you—not through shock, but through sincerity.
This drama literally made me shed tears non-stop, As a man... I can't even explain it!
But tears were made, and I did try holding them back to the best of my ability.
The story is based on a True Story of a girl named Aya Kita whom wrote
a diary of her struggles with her disease. This is a special story.
Erika Sawajiri delivers a performance that is nothing short of unforgettable. She captures the character’s courage, vulnerability, hope, and heartbreak with stunning nuance. Every expression, every line, and every quiet moment feels real. The cast around her is equally strong, offering subtle yet deeply emotional support that enriches every scene.
It made me realise about being grateful for this human life.
There are others less fortunate than us, we shouldnt't take this for granted.
And we should help those who are less fortunate and be compassionate.
You don’t need to relate to the situation to feel its weight—anyone will cry watching this drama. Not because the show tries to force tears, but because it reflects universal human experiences: resilience, family bonds, fear, growth, and the desire to live fully. The emotional impact builds naturally, until you suddenly find yourself overwhelmed—and by the end, it’s impossible not to shed tears.
The OST is so beautiful, especially the song March 9th/Sangatsu Kokonoka.
I simply adore this song!
*Hitomi wo tojireba anata ga (If I close my eyes)
Mabuta no ura ni iru koto de (You're behind my eyelids)
Dore hodo tsuyoku nareta deshou (How strong has that made me?)
Anata ni toote watashi mo sou de aritai (I hope I'm the same for you)
The rewatch value is low, like others have mentioned.
It's tough to go through this again.
But it's a beautiful story that must be watched at least once.
It encourages you to cherish what you have, to be kinder, and to find strength even in difficult moments.
It is the rare kind of drama that transforms your perspective on life.
What truly sets One Liter of Tears apart is how deeply it stays with you. It’s not just sad—it’s inspiring, humbling, and life-affirming.
This is a must watch for anyone interested in J-Dramas. A must-watch for anyone who wants a drama that is not just emotional, but truly meaningful.
