"If we're destined to part, then what was the point of our meeting?" — yet another hidden message to the Chinese…
Appreciate your analysis. However, the less than subtle messages thwamp you over the head before any more subtle message could possibly get through. It was not enough to simply allude to the idea that same sex relationships go against the the natural order of the universe (eg: picture falling, about as subtle as a mirror cracking in western media), and terrible things will happen if one does engage in such a relationship, and there is no way to avoid this outcome. No, not enough to allude to this 'fact'. In case we are just too dense to get the message through these less than subtle hints, mystery man has to clearly and bluntly state this to Shennan, and thus vicariously to us, the viewers. The viewer cannot watch this drama long enough to maybe find and make sense of the subtlties you speak of without also having to put up with the assault of these homophobic messages blaring loudly throughout the drama. To my mind it begs the question ~ What is the point of looking for obscure meanings if one is to endure being beaten over the head with blunt objects the whole time? Further, if these subtle messages are meant for the Chinese government, why should we, the general audience, stick around to be assaulted? What the Chinese audience chooses to do is up to them, but we, the international audience, need not go swimming in this toxic pool of homephobia.
In my opinion, no. It's as satisfying as reading a preachy kids book in which the main goal is to wrap a moral lesson in a story to make the kids swallow it. As tasty as a sugar coated pill. Are you ill? Do you need a pill? If not, don't bother.
Wtf!?What an ending! I don't think it was even a BL. I think it was just a bromance.
I think it was meant to be a moral lesson on the danger of engaging in gay love. I think it was presented in a shiny package to attract viewers. It was no better than those kids storybooks that try to 'teach' kids how to behave while masquerading as children's entertainment.
Similar in the sense that ML does not trust FL and blames her.. Superb melo which is serious and engaging and…
It's rare to see 'Secret' recommended, but it's one of my favourite kdramas. As i read through your comments here i think we have a similar taste in drama.
