So the reason HS wants to help the father is because she wants to save him so that he can spend the rest of his life apologizing to her mother for what he did to her and the family?

If you think about it TH came back to korea to discover what teally happened to his parents and investigate theid death. TM was always against the reopening of this case until he found out about the paternity issue, so yes if it wasn't for TH's involvement in reopening the investigation the truth would never be known so he was the one responsible.. TM just helped in bringing to light the final details
