I'm pretty sure that was his subconscious replacing his brother with Minoru, probably because the stress dream is normal for him, but being comforted is not.

edit: Ok, now that ep 9 has come out, we now know it was a fever memory of his brother. The show has given him a redemption arc that wasn't in the book.

Just finished watching episode 10 during my lunch break at work. Had to try to explain to a colleague why I was wheezing from laughing so hard.
