did u even read the novel? that adaption was perfect! and im not the only one who thinks that
Where was your attention when reading the novel? If you pass it at least twice and what the drama so much. How in the world do you not know the characters by now?
It IS the least accurate. You are sugarcoating the drama very much, a very biased view. I've watched and read all MDZS adaptations and drama falls farthest from the canon/novel. Noting this isn't wrong, it's a fact.
Pardon me for not being obsessed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am quite certain that not participating in deaths of mentioned is redeeming compared to drama. Not to mention he also has blood of Lans in this version, and only in this adaptation. Canon SS has some dept, this one is just a punching bag villain. Boring.

I don't have enough time to just watch anything. Maybe if I was still in high school, but once you are in uni you don't just watch anything. I can't even play games and I'm a gamer. So I need quality shows so I don't waste my time.

That's not the point and I didn't forget. He took demonic cultivation on his own, ignored warnings and the help of others (most notably LWJ) and he ended up killing JZXuan. Point of this was, that it's his own fault not JGY's or Su She's or another persons..... Drama made it seem like demonic cultivation he controlled had no consequences on him, while in fact it was the key thing that played his downfall in his first life. So basically he was white-ned in this aspect.

Su She has a serious inferiority complex. LWJ is 'cold' to everyone but someone like SS takes that personally. Compared to JZXun who, I believe, truly pestered him. Redeeming? He just needed attention and kindness. JGY got himself a loyal partner just by remembering his name. It's redeeming enough that he didn't kill any of the three characters unlike his direct involvement in the drama. WWX, JZX, JYL, they 'did' nothing to him, JZXun however did.

Age is the least problem to you, but not to us who follow the canon. It's unnerving.
I'm already following a drama based on BL, don't need more. Not that it's my first time watching c-adaptations. But censorship varies from medium to medium and company to company. MDZS donghua was almost completely censored while TGCF donghua is heavy on BL vibes yet blood and gore was instead censored. Same goes with manhua, heck even novels. There's already talk that TGCF's Taiwanese novel release will feature NSFW chapters

Lan Yi was ONLY mentioned, as an previous sect leader with an unique ability. We basically don't know if she's alive yet in the drama she is. It's speculated that she isn't alive seeing as Sect Leader duties fall to the oldest person from the main family branch.
Aging is off. Just look around the timeline and time skip. MDZS reddit does complain about the age.
Gray morality basically means that no one is fully evil or good. WWX in canon is in this area. He is a good person but he also did evil deeds. There were no Su She or JGY to push him in the novel, it was his own fault with so much relying on demonic cultivation. Almost all characters in MDZS fall here, JGY is also here yet in the drama his akin to a Disney villain (almost purely black). This is a big theme in the novel. LWJ says it himself going against GusuLan clans teaching that the world is basically 'black and white', evil or good. The cultivation world also has this view trough perception of some people e.g. WWX was the black/evil guy with all his good deeds forgotten, all Wen are evil in their eyes even non-cultivators, JGY after Guanyin got similar treatment like WWX..

JGY is different in temperament (killing before action or JGS's order, most notable with NMJ's death), his introduction, sleeping with Qin Su knowing she's his sister, intentionally killing JZxuan, even killing JYL, he's also shown as much more malicious. There's probably more here but I dropped this so I wouldn't see his character butchered more.

Su She is completely darkened as well. If you read the novel so much how did you notice him? I didn't notice him on my half of my first read (when he was a Lan sect man) but once is enough to learn everyone. He did no plotting with with JGY against WWX and his brother or JYL. That's not a small feat of change. He specifically went against people who looked at him down (Jin ZiXun, LWJ). While I agree he would have totally betrayed the Lan clan like he did when it got raided, they took it too far later on.

Canon fodders are equally important. CQL producers did good on Wen Zhuliu for an example. Showed us his distaste of WC, loyalty to WRH and repressed honor. Even added some scenes to WZL that were totally up his allay.
Another good fodder is Mianmian. Su She is failed, at least they kept his last scene from the novel....
Nie movie was like a fanfic. It's not entirely bad but it's completely non-canon, or exclusively canon to drama. Director apparently knew how to make his own character here, the Nie dude. It's something he should have done instead of blackening other characters in original series run. I also don't see JGY teaching NHS the altered song, only an idiot would do that.

Reason why I said Yi City would have been better is because those characters are almost completely separated from the main cast. Producers could have really played without damaging other characters and Yi City is one of the most beloved arcs.

How do you mean split in half? Like not together as a bromance couple? I think the worst case scenario is gender bending BL characters. There's several BL's that suffered that, and I do agree this would have been the worst case scenario. Worse than the almost WQ/WWX romance *shudders*

There is just too much incorrectness in characters and evident butchering of some (JGY, WRH, WQ). I wouldn’t mind if they erased BL in whole or added new scenes to push some parts, but I don’t forgive bad characterization for any adaptation. Donghua, whilst censored as hell, at least kept characterization at check. Manhua while plain as hell is still more accurate than both donghua and drama. There are several things that just I get gloss over:
-WRH is an old man along with other previous gen sect leaders this is a retcon. Cultivation preserves youth especially if the person was a prodigy (in this case canon WRH is). If they kept a ‘normal’ aging, why the heck is LWJ still young, same with other characters.
-WRH’s seemingly only power is from the yin metal. This plot device ruined several characters. WWX who’s not a Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation anymore, nerfed WRH and XY and added Lan Yi for whatever reason in the whole plot
-WWX’s gray morality is erased. JGY, Su She are blackened to hell and back. JGY is simply a whole new character in the drama with his behaviour and actions. I heard the reasoning behind the gray morality censorship, but JGY? Su She? Nope.
-CQL did add more to side character’s background but it also watered them down. Key one is Wen Qing. My favourite female character in canon, but easily the one I hate the most in CQL.
-WWX and Madam Yu killing themselves is too ooc. And while we are at WWX’s suicide, LWJ would have followed him down the cliff.
- I give CQL big kudos for the very correct Yi City, it’s like it’s spit from the novel pages but that’s sadly the best part of it. They should probably made a movie out of this arc and not Nie brothers
I understand there are some stuff they had to add like female disciples attending Cloud Recesses studies and added romance, cutting BL (obviously) which I would've been fine if characters themselves weren't so different from the source

I did, did you? It's the least accurate adaptation if it could be called that.

Everyone is mentioning their favorites here. I just wish they would not cast idol actors. Please choose real actors…
Agree. Wang Yibo was so painful to watch in CQL as a main. Never liked the idea of singers/models taking roles of actors (in Western films too), most barely do a good job

I hope they don't butcher the characterization like in CQL. It was painful watching such ooc-ness of a beloved novel.
