Thanks for the rec! I also love Wong Kar Wai films. The reason why I did not add them here was because, they can't…
I hope you will like it! I'm quite curious, so please let me know your thoughts on it if you watch it. Of course, only if you don't mind! ✿
(P.S. Just in case: you might see the ML as a bit off-putting at first. If that's the case, try watching 3-4 episodes, and I think you'll start to warm up to him.)
I really love these kinds of dramas/movies where the main leads' relationship is, as you said, organic and the cinematography is good (artsy). If you haven't seen any yet, I recommend checking out the films directed (screenwritten) by Wong Kar Wai. I really like director Wong Kar Wai's distinct visual style in movies; it feels nostalgic and dreamlike, although his movies mainly focus on loneliness and missed chances. I've noticed this style more in Chinese works, but I can also recommend a Korean drama that has spectacular cinematography: "We Are All Trying Here"
I meant: -the luxurious lifestyle of aristocrats in the 1920s -an intelligent, endearing and witty FL (with lots of unusual hobbies and skills) - a grounded ML who is both grumpy and suave -their dynamic together -glamourous fashion -showcasing the aftermath of war -charming side characters (companions, workers)
There are more kisses. As I said, the second couple is more intense (Elvis & Chen Jia Hui ), so their romantic relationship develops faster than the other one (Xu Jun Le & Mai You Ge- I think their first kiss is in ep. 13). But I wouldn't measure the romance in the drama by kisses. What captivated me were the charming characters and the romanticised scenery of Macau
I wish they had explored his relationship with his father more. I really like JHI in this one. He is a really good actor. The story had a lot more potential, but the writers couldn't quite deliver. I think it's worth watching if you are into gangster + romance (and expect silly scenes).
