I actually thought it was very sweet. ML had real feelings for FL but yet he was willing to let her go if that would make her happier. I think it was because both were unsure of each other's love. No one ever confessed their love and they kept calling one another allies. So both wanted to be considerate to one another and give the other person an "out" in case they didn't really want to be together.

In the script, you will see that the FL "adopted" the ML as part of her family as he lost his parents when he was young. And the FL is older than the ML because he calls her older sister. So I see it as an older sister trying to beat some sense into a younger brother who gives up very easily and always tries to find the easy way of getting things done. :o)

I just watched Ep 20. I just love how the ML is slowly but surely working his magic on the FL. I think he finds joy in teasing her and watching her squirm in embarrassment.
