I can't speak for other people, but I personally want shows without toxic power relations. I don't think that it's too much to ask either. ;)

"you are not yet mature enough to watch this" - I think that some people aren't mature enough to watch Bergman or Kieślowski, but watching BL dramas does not require maturity, it's supposed to be light entertainment.

I guess that negative behaviour of Type is obvious enough - he is violent and homophobic. No need to call him out on that - everyone can see this.

It's a parody of a BL drama, so in a way, it's a genre of its own. 😁

First of all - sorry you've been through this. 🥺 I don't think anyone here is judging Type's reaction, but Tharn's behaviour is definitely questionable. A good guy would not molest an abuse survivor.

If anybody DARES to yell at you because of your interpretation, tell them that in 1968, Roland Barthes' proclaimed the death of the author and since then you have got every right to be in control over the meaning. XD That should shut them up. XD

What did the girl do wrong? Cassie and Jonathan were sure that Shane is straight, Jonathan only wanted Shane to be happy, and it is Shane, who pursued Cassie, not the other way round. She ended up loving them both and having little chance for a happy relationship with either of them. Unless they managed to navigate through a ménage à trois, she would be the one most hurt.

I guess you summarised the situation quite accurately. Shane is a good boy, but his understanding of what might hurt other people is rather limited. To me, this is realistic, especially that we know that he had some behavioural problems as kid.

In the copy I watched, this book title is translated as "Theory of Gender" - I guess that makes more sense.

There are many movies about simple characters, who are either 100% straight or 100% gay all the time, and that's that. Shane's feelings are more complicated , which is the most interesting part of the movie. Why did he have sex with Jonathan? It is for the viewers to try to answer. Gives you food for thought. As for the girl - she loves them both, so no easy answer here either. I don't see, what she did wrong.

IKR? Maybe this is because they had this one-child policy? Having children became a taboo? Or maybe taking care of a child would be OK for a woman, but Solo was a man and should be more "macho"? We would probably need a culturally-consious Chinese to explain that.

I am really curious if this is some sort of a cultural difference? Is it typical in China to see childcare as demeaning? :-/ Because stalking is definitely seen as a "nice way of showing love" there - it gets depicted as such in too many shows! [facepalm]

@foxyjo The team is shown as good friends at first. Then Solo has a difficult situation - he has to take care of a child he did not even know he had. As the saying goes, friend in need is friend indeed. The fact that ML did not support Solo in this situation shows that he was not a dependable friend. The fact that ML bore grudge against Solo in this situation - where Solo was just acting decently - is beyond my comprehension. It is Solo who could be angry with ML, not the other way round.

I might actually watch that one. DT is such a lovable character! He shows that you can be smart and successful, but modest and amicable at the same time.
