Title Under the Moonlight Spoiler
Re: virginity - I thought that was a mistake made by what's her name (madame of Menke House). She was corrected…
Yes, there was not much of an opportunity for them to have met in the beginning since he had just moved up to his position and only learned about the temple case when the constables rescued the women who had jumped. The Magistrate probably then went to MingKe House and spoke with the Madam regarding the plan to have courtesans help with the case so that should be how they met initially which was why the Madam was aware of the situation and decided to move the plan with the deflowering night early to prevent any chances of escaping. I would assume it is most likely because Jin Nang is the most well known at MingKe House and she got her nickname for being smart and meticulous so the magistrate decided to ask for her to help with investigating. Therefore, she asked Miaocui to come along for additional assistance and also to use the opportunity to escape together.

It was not until the temple case in the first episode did the magistrate actually see her skills which made him become interested in her.

And what we saw in the flashback in the second episode explained why we saw Miaocui running outside and some people were following her since she had probably sneaked out and was going to the Yamen to get help which led to the scene where the magistrate came with his men to save her. That was the first time she had successfully step foot out of MingKe House and we see why she was so persistent in asking for help to get her removal status after the case.

Re: virginity - I thought that was a mistake made by what's her name (madame of Menke House). She was corrected…
I believe Qin Yi was not there that day because then she would have probably realized he was the one behind everything and will definitely find a way to escape. We did see a flashback earlier where he came to redeem her after becoming the head master of the Qin family to “make up for not helping her back then” but she refused and said she didn’t want to be involved with him anymore after learning his true nature. It’s most likely at that point in time that he decided he will make her go back to him so he made sure no one could redeem her besides him by trapping her at MingKe House until she would give in which was why she had always failed to escape. They just never thought she would end up escaping with the help of the magistrate and get her removal status there.

Yes, she probably would have been brought back to Taiyuan if everything went as planned for the deflowering night and know the truth earlier about Qin Yi’s manipulative scheme all along and it would become another cycle of hell for her to be back with him again and perhaps be used in another way.

They never really showed how the female lead and the magistrate first met but it’s probably assumed that they already knew each other prior to saving her when Miaocui called for help. Perhaps the woman who jumped has some connections with someone from MingKe House and that’s how the female lead learned about the case and the magistrate decided to have them infiltrate into the temple to get evidence since they, as courtesans, know how to handle those type of situation with men. It is all speculation since they never addressed it and was a loose end that they did not bother to address.

The story is interesting..but unfortunately, the FL is too old to play an 18 years old girl. They should get a…
Age is really not the main concern here. A lot of drama characters are written to be younger than the actors/actresses themselves. The female lead was able to portray her character well and there was a reason why all actors/actresses were selected for their respective roles.

If you really want to point out age, take the drama Someday or One Day for example. The female lead actress there is much older and yet she played a role of a high school student but was able to deliver her character.

Re: virginity - I thought that was a mistake made by what's her name (madame of Menke House). She was corrected…
Actually I think the deflowering night was disguised as a way for Qin Yi to claim her back by providing the highest bid. They weren’t going to sell her to anyone else but him, however, the male lead ended up bidding even more so the Madam switched rooms since the male lead didn’t know who Jin Nang was. Even if he did know who she was, the Madam would still find a way to not let her go with him. If everything had gone the way it was planned, then she would have been back to him and he wouldn’t have had to continuously be behind the scenes to try to get control of her.

Also, if you remember that conversation the Madam had with the old man Mr. Li in the second episode about the female lead having connections with the authority (the magistrate), they were trying to make sure she gets back in the hands of Qin Yi so she could not get away which is why they wanted to sell her off before she could work with the magistrate on that temple case and was worried when the male lead got the highest bid. This all makes sense now with that flashback at MingKe House.

The drama achieved a douban score of 7.6 which is high and generally hard to get on douban. It has also maintained an 8.5 rating on the Chinese site (iyf.tv) with an increase in popularity of viewership.

The recent popular dramas that topped the charts in China did not all get as high of a rating. Flourished Peony received a 7.7, Moonlight Mystique 5.8, and Guardians of the Dafeng 5.4, yet those ratings on MDL are all higher than this drama.

Hidden gem and the rating does not reflect the drama at all and heard it's popular and rated well in China. Btw…
The ratings on MDL is not a good representation of whether the drama is good or not. It is often overrated or underrated due to those who tend to rate based on the actors’ popularity more so than the storyline and acting itself. And that is why we see how almost all dramas that are popular and trending have actors that are high in popularity on MDL.

This drama definitely has a much higher rating (it’s at least an 8.5 on other Chinese sites) and has made pretty good achievements in China (ranking in the Top 1 and Top 3 multiple times throughout the broadcast period and has good viewership ratings). You can check out the photos section for more details.

The main casts also had two live streaming events which shows the success of the drama catching the interest of viewers. You can find the links here if interested:

This drama deserves better rating. The set and make up were much more realistic than any other dramas that I have…
Definitely! This drama has a very unique storyline blending in historical with investigation and comedy which is something we rarely see in costume dramas. There is also an exploration on realistic themes with the cases we see and that really makes us think about humanity in life.

The ratings on MDL are often flawed. This drama has a much higher rating (at least an 8.5) on other Chinese sites and it has made pretty good achievements in China (ranking in the Top 1 and Top 3). You can check out the photos section for more details.

Despite the ratings on MDL, this drama has made pretty great achievements in China. It has made and stayed in the list of the Top 10 most watched dramas since its airing date with good viewership ratings. The highest ranking the drama has achieved was in the Top 3.

It is a highly recommended drama with a unique storyline that explores realistic themes in life

Haven't paid attention on the lyrics but enjoy the OST. I'll pay more attention on the lyrics next time.
The ending song is Bright Moon and I believe there are translations of the lyrics in the subs. You can pay attention to the lyrics there.

Interesting, I’ll have to check it out. There’s nice poetry in this drama but I struggle to keep up b/c of…
Bright moon is the ending song and I believe there are translations of the lyrics there. You can pay attention to the lyrics.

It is describing Luo Shu’s life in MengKe House and how she wants to be free. Han Mu Zhi was the one who helped her escape in the beginning which gave her hopes of freedom and that’s why I think the bright moon is referring to him.

“This journey matters because of you”
“Clearly missing you, the past is all scattered”
“You are my bright moon”
“My heart only follows the moon”

That last phrase is indicating her ultimate goal of freedom and she will do whatever she needs to achieve that.

So apparently in that BTS, the male lead did not react in time when the female lead slapped so it caught him off…
Yes, that was funny. The PTSD resulted from that first slap where he did not react in time. After that fifth take, he mentioned how he becomes scared each time she brings her hand up to redo the take so he was ready to dodge 😆

He basically had a sigh of relief when she didn’t slap after pushing him on the fifth time which is why he started laughing right after.

BTS of the kissing/slap scene has ML with PTSD and SML giving tips though he’s not even supposed to be in that…
So apparently in that BTS, the male lead did not react in time when the female lead slapped so it caught him off guard 😂

He was supposed to move his head in the direction she was going to slap so it would not have much of an impact but he did not react in time and it ended up becoming an actual slap. That was what they were practicing with the hand movement right before that take.

The second male lead was actually there to see the scene and that slap scared him since it was loud. He was not giving tips but was saying how it was a good thing the male lead did not have a long line after that slap otherwise he would have been flustered and forget what to say right after 😆

Did anyone listen/look closely to the lyrics of the OSTs?

It is spectacularly written to match the story 💕

It seems that the song Bright Moon (明月) is describing how Han Mu Zhi was Luo Shu’s “bright moon” who was able to help her gain freedom. However, they are not meant to be, and she expresses the yearning for their relationship but chooses to continue moving forward to her goal of freedom.

And the song Ask Moonlight to Take Her Home (请月光带她回家) is describing how Qi Meng Lin is Luo Shu’s “moonlight” who brought light/direction into her life and his appearance made her realize that he is ultimately the one who can help her gain the freedom she yearns for.

I think that fire that killed Luo's parents and made her available as an orphan was connected to the ML's family.…
It seems that there will be a happy ending. If you go back to the calendar in the photos, there’s a red Chinese character icon for the last episode which gives a hint for a marriage
