I disagree. The over idolization is becoming a turn off. It took me 4 attempts across 2 months to finish ROTP. The ending sux and overall I won't recommend the drama but I don't fault Ni Ni acting and the vibe the drama gave. I have high expectation of ZZY but I find her acting lacking in this drama. Her smile looks insincere, her voice is too gentle for her aloof face. She once snobbed the clothes when she arrived in Ningshuo. I agreed the clothes are ugly but the way she snobbed it then spoke with a gentle voice in another scene. It doesn't flow.

I prefer FL not acting cutesy but I still think Ni Ni pulled it off better in L&D than ZZY in this drama.

To be jelaous, one has to like her. I don't. With every passing episode my interest is wanning. I may drop this drama soon.

You need to change the cdramas you watch. For example NIV (HuGe's gf is a general definitely did more than a big fat 0), Ruyi (She protected and returned favours of those who helped her and treated everyone with respect even her enemies). TROTP, Ni Ni solved one issue after another. Choose what you watch and you'll find more worthy FL .

Whether you like/dislike ZZY's clothes that's your preference but you compare her costumes to other female casts and if you can't see the gap then you are biased.

I had no issue with Ni Ni in L&D and TROTP. I am skipping a lot of scenes with ZZY now. She is over idolised, over worshipped. Even when she first left Ningshao the army chanted her name. Why? What has she done? Army is loyal to its General and respect, not idolised his wife when she has no meritorious deed for the country. Another scene is after she saved the town/people, the scene where people were trying to show their gratefulness to her. It looked forced, a scene done to further emphasize how perfect ZZY is.

It's beginning to feel this drama is an ode to ZZY rather than to her character in the drama. She wears the best clothes even more luxurious than the empress and her mother a royal princess, best loved by everyone, worshipped by everyone from common people, the army who technically she has no dealing with except for they are tasked to protect her as she is the General's wife right up to the emperor. yadi yada we know where this is going.

The only reason I am still watching this is XQ. He can be as flawless as he wants to be coz he is hot. His only flaw so far is he bathes once a month.

I'm up ep 24 and I am beginning to not enjoy this drama as much as I did at the beginning when ML propped up my interest. The drama is beginning to come across as over idolising ZZY.

Ni Ni would have been a better cast and she may even pull off the 15 year old potrayal smoother. It was a WTF moment when ZZY hid inside the emperor's robe in the early episode. I did not see a 15 yo princess in that scene, I saw a 41 woman doing that and it was disturbing.

No need to it personally. You are not the FL in T&G nor Awu.

Is it all due to age?

Zhou Xun pulled off Ruyi flawlessly despite being 2x the age of the character. I don't read complains about it. Her face - aided with the correct garb and make up especially in the early episodes potrays a fresh, young girl which seamlessly transforms into a mature empress.

ZZY has a mature, alluring and sulty look which doesn't suit the likes of pouting, puffing cheeks. I cringed a little when she did them, luckily she seemed to have abandoned them in the 20th+ series. With someone with her calibre the desired potrayal of a princess loved and spoilt by all could have been achieved through a different means. ZZY knows her appeal you can tell from her wardrobe which is more appealing and sexier than other characters in the drama. ZZY could have been 25 y.o. and I would have said the same. To me it's not the age, it's her look and may be make up which didn't support.

I've been holding off watching sound of desert because Hu Ge who played in NIV the best ever historical drama doesn't get the girl (again).

Have you watched Tiger & Rose? I couldn't get pass ep 1. Take a peek at the so called General there and compare with our XQ. Since when is he our XQ ? lol The FL in Tiger & Rose also doesn't have the bearing of a General's wife.

Like I said, with a face like zzy , it doesn't suit.

We are entitled to our opinion and Avenuex to hers. I would have preferred ZZY not acting cutesy (puffying up her cheeks, pouting) not because of her age but because she can't pull it off. Her face is too sultry, too mature. It would have been better if she just acts as herself. A 15 y.o. in that era is much more mature than 15 y.o. today. A 15 y.o. would soon be married off and make house so easily today's late 20s to early 30s. The argument it's wrong to watch a 38 y.o. acting a 15 y.o is like saying it's wrong to watch a 15 y.o. getting married to a man 10 yrs older than her and have his babies soon after which would cover most historical dramas. The norms then and today is different.

What does the novel say?

While waiting for subs....what other dramas / translated novels would you recommend with similar mature characters - no cutesy / beautiful ML please?

Thank goodness for not another 20 something y.o. actress with cringeworthy acting acting cutesy and a feminine looking general. I like my general like XQ, not a barely 20 y.o. actor with beautiful face and thin as bamboo. The character has been at wars for ten of years! What kind of general is he if his face remains fair and smooth and how would he hold the spear if his body is as slim as the FL.

I thought she told XQ at dinner? Then XQ saw the maids bringing buckets and buckets of water after she miscarriaged? Did XQ know?

We need faster subs. I will settle for the novel for now but the translation's been dropped.

Then she lost it in the next ep? I am watching without sub hence the guesses.

In ep 29 towards the end, Awu kept rubbing her tummy while waiting for XQ to arrive for dinner. Is she pregnant?
