As much as i love this show i have to agree with you. Despite Akk and Ayan's relationship developing, it feels…
I think you described it best by saying "the storyline is a climax that doesn't reach its destiny". The show has an interesting concept but i can't help but feel that more should be happening at this point.
I wish the overarching plot was developed alongside the characters and their relationships. I wonder if there is a way the writers could build intrigue for the mystery/supernautral element while still giving Akk and Ayan the same amount of screentime.
All we can do now is hope that the ending is coherent at least :(
I love this series don't get me wrong, but they need to fix the pace of it because.. it's EP 7 already and it's…
As much as i love this show i have to agree with you. Despite Akk and Ayan's relationship developing, it feels like the overarching plot has barely reached the rising action part. We're at episode 7 right now and i feel like i know nothing about Dika who seems to be somewhat important to the plot. Teacher Sani and Namo have also been set up as characters that will become significant later but i know next to nothing about them other than: Teacher Sani is questioning the rules and Namo knows something about the curse.
Wrapping all of this up in just 5 episodes seems like quite the task- i really hope the writers can pull this off. :)
aAAA episode 7 is coming today !! I'm probably going to be thinking about this all day :D
btw: can someone give me recommendations for BLs or GLs similar to the eclipse (yes i've already watched the standard recommendations- The Manner of Death and Not Me lol)
OkayFirst of all why do i torture myself... i should have waited for this series to finish but now the waiting…
aAaaaa i feel youu it's so frustrating watching an episode and being hyped for another but not being able to watch it :(
but i also think that it's a good thing because weekly discussions between viewers on MDL are always fun and it's nice to have something to look forward to :)
Can't wait for Friday i'll probably rewatch episode 6 until then lol
aAAAA the kiss !! It was so well done, the chemistry, intimacy and acting are all spectacular. Usually i find that kiss scenes in BLs are a little awkward but i didn't get that this time. I'll probably rewatch this episode until the next one comes out lol
I love how Ayan is the one who breaks down and is comforted by Akk. He seems like such a composed character compared to Akk so i'm glad he got his moment to be vulnerable.
Also i was wondering: if the notebook is so important to Ayan why would be bring it to school when he knows that Akk and his prefect group are onto him? I wonder who actually took the notebook though...judging by the hand i don't think it's Teacher Chadok but it could be one of the prefects ?
This might be a weird thing to mention but i like that Wat and Teacher Sani are getting to know each other- i just hope they don't turn this into a teacher-student romance.
I just started watching this series (currently halfway through episode 3) and i have to say, wow this series is very polarising. With a rating of 8.2 i was expecting more positive comments but i guess i was wrong?
I'm still going to continue watching, i'm not too into what i've seen so far but i hope this is worth my time :)
I was getting really tired of BLs set in school/university but this show really stands out imo. Even i can't resist a good enemies-to-lovers plot even if it's from a category of BL i don't feel very captivated by now. The chemistry between the main actors is amazing; in fact i don't think there is a single actor that didn't do well!! The supernatural/mystery aspect makes this show really refreshing- i'd love to see where they go with this. I can't wait for next week !
(Btw does anyone know which novel this show is based off of? And is there an english translation?)
Have you ever started watching the second last episode of a show hoping for a good ending and then you finish the episode and go "yup they're 100% gonna fuck this up" and then wonder why you're watching it in the first place? That's how i feel about this show.
I do ship Studearth but I'm glad that the series didn't go out of its way to give them a happy ending. The ending was realistic and satisfying (even if some of it kinda heartbreaking and open ended). God i'm going to miss this show so much :(((
i dont really like this series because of how they handle the homophobic stuff. Like if your friend is homophobic…
I don't like how they handled the homophobia either :// Ton's apology to Ai and Ni for being homophobic and making weird comments was basically "Oh I don't like gay people but you're not like them so it's okay1!1!1". Also about the acting, I don't think it's terrible but it's definitely not stellar either. An issue i have with the main couple is that they don't really have much chemistry?? I mean they're okay as individual actors but together...ehhhh
same!!! they just tell each other they love each other and then have sex!! That's crazy!!! I'm so confused how…
yess and it all happened in the span of one episode!!!!It's like the writers got so caught up in writing wacky scenarios where Ton's friends pretend to be straight and forgot about developing Ton as a character until like the 7th episode and now they're rushing to develop Ton's character and his relationship with Chon TT^TT
I had really high expectations for this show because of the cast but wow holy shit I don't think I've ever been that disappointed in a show. Tonhon chonlatee is proof that even a great cast can't fix terrible dumpster fire writing TT^TT.
Yes, Music had an amazing development. Originally she looked like a relationship wrecker, but she really evolved…
@Silver_Sylphy I completely agree with what you had to say about Earth's character and Singto's acting. I feel like Singto's acting really does bring Earth's character to life in a way.
I think something that Friend zone was very successful in portraying was Earth's transition from being a 'good boy' to someone that isn't really 'good'. It didn't happen out of nowhere. There were things that happened that started the change and we as viewers got to see his slow descent. Earth's character arc is probably the most interesting among the main cast.
Cris and Amm are by far my favorite couple in the show (i started the show because of them in the first place). I'm glad they didn't just brush over Cris's mental illness. There's a particular line in one of the episodes where Cris says something along the lines of "My illness won't be as romantic as it is in the movies" that really hit hard. I'm glad the show is trying to accurately portray mental illnesses. Kudos to the show for also discussing asexuality and sex in a relationship. I don't see sex and asexuality discussed so often in asian media so this is definitely a step forward!
I also agree with what you said about Bew and her conflict. I'm glad the whole season didn't center around it. It happened, the show moved on and that was the end of it. And because what happened with Bew wasn't the main conflict, the show was able to redeem Bew in the middle of the season without waiting for the last episode to do it. As a result Bew's character growth and journey feels more natural.
I really disliked Music at the start but now she's becoming one of my favourite characters in the show. I like her and Good's friendship. Good is a great friend but as a boyfriend... not so much.
I'm glad Boyo dumped Locker's ass the way she did. Boyo is a queen and i love her sm<33
I'm really worried for Amm and Cris, i hope they get a happy ending (and along the way i hope Amm's mom becomes more accepting).
I'm happy for Tor and Boom. I thought their breakup a few episodes back would be the end of them but they're back stronger than ever! Tor had some amazing growth and he's grown to be such a wonderful character! God this show has a way of making me love the characters I disliked.
And now onto the mess that is... EarthStudSam.
Earth and Sam should have broken up last season. There was no salvaging their relationship after Sam cheated. Earth seemed to have not gotten over what Sam did. At this point I'm pretty sure Earth is still with him solely because Sam was his first love, first boyfriend etc and it's hard to let your firsts go.
Now onto Sam. I feel maybe a bit(?) sorry for him. He's working to salvage a relationship that we all know just won't work. He even agreed to an open relationship to make Earth happy for god sake! This season portrayed him as sort of pitiful and I'm left wondering if i should feel sorry for him considering how much damage and emotional turmoil he has caused Earth.
Well... about Stud. I'm glad he confronted Earth and told him off. I was just about having enough of Earth using Stud as a sort of emotional punching bag. I'm not happy that he jumped right into another relationship though. Especially with someone that he doesn't have exactly good history with... I feel sorry for Stud's new boyfriend considering that he seems to have genuine feelings for Stud and there's no way that they're going to be endgame. I hope Stud moving on will maybe give Earth that little push he needs to accept his feelings for Stud.
About Earth; aka the most interesting and messy character this season. I don't know how to feel about him anymore. I've said before that i used to really like his character but now...holy shit. I'm not as mad at him as i thought i was going to be. Watching him break out of his 'goodboy' persona was oddly satisfying. It became painful when he started using Stud though. He could have had his self discovery/breaking out of his persona moment but did it really have to involve hurting Stud and Sam?? (I'd say the answer is yes but wow he handled it terribly). Earth just seems like he really needs to be single right now, take some time off to figure himself out and get therapy.
I don't think I've seen anyone else say this but I really hope we get to see Bew in the last episode. Her character is proof that people can change if they are given the chance to. I'm glad Boyo and her friendgroup didn't give up on her.
Am i the only one who thinks that the sex scene happened way too fast?? Like one moment Ton is in denial of his feelings and then the next he's having sex with Chon??? The pacing of the show makes me want to bash my head against a wall.
I wish the overarching plot was developed alongside the characters and their relationships. I wonder if there is a way the writers could build intrigue for the mystery/supernautral element while still giving Akk and Ayan the same amount of screentime.
